Are you happy?
I had to ask as we sat on the sands of
that L.A. beach
Our shoes sat next to us
my toes dug into the warm grains of the earth
and I let the roaring waves of the ocean
be my balance
Yes, you told me.
It was then I realized your answer
was equivalent to swallowing glass
But I wanted you to be happy
Just like you wanted me to be
But how could one be happy
when the one they never stopped loving
is now loving someone else?
It was hard to look at you
I didn't want you to catch the sole tear
that slowly rolled down my cheek
This was a different pain than just
reading things over the internet
You were here, admitting to me directly
All the truths the rest weren't clear about
And then I felt your hand over mine
