--Moonlight--
He growled at the shadows. When they first caugh him, he though he could escape them. Yet here he was, encircled by spirits of his dead family, and with no way to escape. One of the dark shapes drew closer. He recognized his sister Robin, the dagger that killed her still stuck in her neck. "Though you can run away from us, didn't you, brother?" She hissed at him. He bared his fangs in response. Robin laughted. "So, so pathetic. You could never escape us. We will hunt you forever, until you give up your little bracelet. One small jewelry isn't gonna protect you from us." her forked tongue slid from her mouth, making her look even more like snake- something he though wasn't even possible.
He lifted his chin defiantly. "I will never give up. Not now, not ever. When I die, my spirit will go on. You will never get me." he growled at Robin. His dead sister laughted.
"I suppose we are about to find out." she whispered and stepped back into the shadows. The darkness around him grew closer and closer, until it chocked him. He prayed to whoever could hear him that Nightrise's magic would work.
Last thing that came to him before closing his eyes for the final time was Robin's insane laughter.
Moonlight screeched and sat up. She breathed heavily, willing her senses to calm down. It was fourth night in row. Four nights in row, she dreamt of being random dragons. Four nights in row, she experienced dying. And every time, there was someone called 'Nightrise.
The hybrid growled to herself. She stood up and stretched her wings. Once fully woken up, she started packing her belongings. Living as a rogue assassin, she didn't have much; an old blanket, few pouched of lamb jerky and dried apples, one water bottle and four daggers.
She shook her talons and pulled out map her boss has once given her. It was marked with hundreds of X's from the two years worth of dead dragons. One or two missions in week does something to target maps. Moonlight checked the ony uncrossed X. She smiled as she saw she was no more than three hours from her next kill. She rolled the map up and spread her wings.
----
Moonlight crept through shadows of the village houses. The dragons who passed her seemed friendly, different from the ones she knew before she escaped her family. Thr assassin felt almost bad for having to kil one of them, but job was job and that was it.
She quickly found her target. He was StarWing, sky blue with amber eyes. He looked young, from twelve to twenty years old. Her heart fluttered as she realized she might kill her first StarWing who didn't go through the Great Sleep.
Moonlight just reached for her daggers when another dragon galloped to her target. She was so dark others could mistake her for black, with something unusual for StarWing-markings. Her whole body was dotted with small white spots, as if the night sky fell down and stayed at her scales.
"Hey, Skycatcher, how are you?" she shouted at him enthusiastically. The other dragon- Skycatcher-, gently smiled at her. "Good. You?" he asked her.
The dragonet growled in her hiding spot. Dragons and their lovely loves. Seriously, who has time for this? Can't you wait till I kill you, if you even must?
She leashed her tail in annoyance. It was true that Truthbringer taught her to kill only the target, but Skycatcher's girlfriend decided to show up in the worst time she could.
Moonlight pulled out her two sharpest daggers, and reached for her earring. She carefully undid the bottom part, the one designed like small poison bottle. The liquid inside shone dangerous shade of pink. The assassin opened it and let the poison drop at one dagger. Then she closed it and put it on again.
She aimed at the dragons, ready to end their lives. She silently counted to three, and found herself doing something she never did- hesitating. As much as she wanted to let the weapons go free, she couldn't .
"Did you hear the news, Dark?" Skycatcher suddenly asked. Dark shook her head. "No. What news?" her face was crunched up with curiosity. "Princess Royality and Futureteller Stardancer are looking for that dragonet. Moonlight. The price for her founding is pretty high. We could live like king and queen if we found her." he said. Dark nodded, obviously lured by the mention of treasure. "I suppose we could lo-"
Moonlight screeched. She darted from her hiding spot and threw the daggers. She hit both dragons perfectly in the middle of their foreheads. Skycatcher and Dark knelt down, dead at spot. The dragonet calmly walked to them. The poisonous dagger in Dark's head started sizzling. The StarWing's scales started melting off.
Lucky dragons, you two. You found me. She though, pulling her weapon from the dissolving head. Moonlight ripped some scales off of Skycatcher's face.
Then she turned from the dead bodies and disappeared into the shadows once again.
----
She threw Skycatcher's scales at Truthbringer's talons. The dragonet stared proudly at her teacher.
"What you got here, Soundless?" he asked her gleefully. Moonlight growled at the nickname. As much as she liked Truthbringer, his sence of joking was terrible.
Moonlight. My name is Moonlight. She signed at him angrily. Truthbringer waved his talons at her.
"Yeah, whatever you think, Soundless. Anyway, the Nation meeting is tomorrow, so be there. I have a big surprise." he said.
Moonlight hesitated before answering. Tomorrow. Fine. I can do that.
She turned her back at him. As the sun started to sink, the dragonet pulled out her daggers and started cleaning them.
Tomorrow. Tomorrow they will see who I truly am.
