After arriving at school Piper split up from Caroline so she could go to her locker and get her history textbook. Once she got her textbook and put it in her bag she closed the door of her locker, but jumped when she saw Grayson leaning against the locker next to hers. Putting one hand on her chest she uses her other one to shove Grayson.

"Don't do that! You scared me." Piper explains with a laugh at the end. This causes Grayson to chuckle. "I saw an opportunity and I had to take it. I must say that you are a fun one to scare." He teases the girl. "Alright, enough with the teasing. Now, we have history with Mr Tanner first so, do you want to walk with me to class?" Piper asks the boy. Offering his arm Grayson says "It would be my honour."

And that's how the pair made their way to history arm in arm, ignoring the jealous glares from the other students. When they made it into class they decided to sit next to each other. Just as they were about to start another conversation Mr Tanner started his class causing Piper to let her head fall onto the desk and let out a small groan. Grayson saw this and let out a quiet chuckle as he shakes his head.

"The Battle of Willow Creek took place at the end of the war in our very own Mystic Falls. How many casualties resulted in this battle?" Mr Tanner asks. But as he notices that no one is contributing so he picks on Bonnie. "Um... A lot? I'm not sure. But, like a whole lot." This makes the whole class irrupt in laughter. "Cute becomes dumb in an instant, Miss Bennett." Tanner retorts wiping the smile off of Bonnie's face. "What a bitch." Piper mumbles glaring at the teacher.

"Mr Donovan. Would you like to take this opportunity to overcome your jock stereotype?" Tanner than asks Matt. "It's okay, Mr Tanner. I'm cool with it." Is all Matt says, making Tanner move on to his next victim.

"Miss Gilbert? Surely you can enlighten us about one of the town's most significantly historical events." However, Elena shakes her head, not knowing the answer. "I'm sorry, I don't know." This doesn't seem to please Tanner. "I was willing to be lenient last year for obvious reasons, Elena. But the personal excuses ended with summer break."

This makes Piper extremely mad and just as she was about to speak her own mind with Mr Tanner a hand grabs one of hers on her desk. Following the arm of the person who's holding her hand, her eyes met with Grayson's. This causes Piper to relax and lean back in her chair but never once letting go of his hand.

"There were 346 casualties, unless you're counting the local civilians." A voice says, breaking the silence. That voice also happens to be Stefan Salvatore. "That's correct, Mr...?" Tanner trails of not knowing Stefan's name. "Salvatore." Stefan answers. "Salvatore. Any relation to the original settlers here at Mystic Falls?" Mr Tanner curiously asks. "Distant." Is all he gets as an answer.

"Well, very good. Except, of course, there were no civilian casualties in this battle." But Stefan thinks differently. "Actually, there were 27, sir. Confederate soldier fired on the church, believing it to be housing weapons. And they were wrong. It was a night of great loss." Stefan explains causing Tanner to look at his desk. "The founder's archives are in Civil Hall if you'd like to brush up on your facts... Mr Tanner." Piper with the rest of the class quietly laugh.
