I walk to school just like every other normal day.
Except it's not a normal day. Nor was yesterday. Jacob didn't give me a ride home. So I had to walk the 45 minute journey home all by myself.
I mean I understand why he did it. I couldn't imagine how I would feel if I lost my mom. She's like my rock. I'd actually be speechless. I'd be confused. I wouldn't know what to do with my life.
She guides me and tells me what to do when I need guidance and don't know what I'm doing. I really appreciate all she does for me. So I can only imagine what Jacob's feeling.
I head to the library because that's where I assume Jacob is and I was right. I see him there sulking. Gosh I feel so bad.
I walk up to him and hug him from behind. He looks so startled and it makes me laugh.
"Hi!" I say, extending the "i" sound.
"Valerie. I'm- I'm really," He stutters trying to find the right words.
"It's okay," I say to him, giving him a forgiving smile.
"No it's not okay," He insists, "I was so vicious and cruel to you when I shouldn't have and I don't believe a single word that came out of my mouth when I spoke to you."
"Really?" I ask, "Because your words felt pretty genuine to me."
Yes. I have to admit those words cut deep. Like, my heart felt heavy when he said it, and my eyes were beginning to well up.
"Yes, really. I love your smiles, they're amazing." His eyes begin to develop a softer glare.
"Thanks," I look to the ground as I begin to feel a bit embarrassed.
"Also, I'll try my hardest to stop that barricade from ever coming between us."
Wow. He'd really do that?
"Really? That actually means a lot."
"Yes and I'm glad it means a lot." He says.
"Promise?" I ask.
"Promise." He responds.
I give him a genuine smile and then I remember I have something for him.
"I just have to say thank you for always being there for me." Jacob says, avoiding eye contact with me.
Aw, he's embarrassed.
"I'm just returning the favour because I know that you'll always be there for me. Till the end. I'll know you'll be with me even in the end." I reply.
He gets all flustered and blushes. I love this side of him.
"Oh yeah, I've got something in my bag for you," I say, giving him a side smirk.
I unzip my backpack and take out the bouquet of white roses he left at the hospital.
I get on one knee and keep the bouquet in my left hand. Jacob looks so confused which makes this even funnier.
We make eye contact and I begin my speech.
"Your mesmerising eyes never fail to impress me-"
"Oh gosh," Jacob says whilst rolling his eyes at me.
He's just making me laugh even harder.
"Your deep voice and rough hands only compliment your soft appearance." I continue.
I can tell he's having a hard time holding his laugh in.
"Will you, Jacob Hiell, take my hand in marriage and be my lawfully wedded husband?" I ask him raising my eyebrows in a mischievous way.
He places both of his hands on my head and greets my forehead with a soft kiss.
"I do."
