Sigh. Where do I even start with this one.
Like our beloved Icecreampaw, I see a lot of silver tabbies everywhere with glowing blue eyes and dainty paws and-
Listen, if you want to have a silver tabby, that's fine. It's when the character is a silver tabby and a Mary Sue- that's when it's a problem. Honestly, you can have a fucking brown tabby and if it's a Mary Sue I would have a problem.
God. I hate Mary fucking Sues. Luckily, I'm here to help you burn them and make a better cat.
And it seems like some of you just love slapping a star shape on Winterface's forehead and calling it a day. Oh, and she has sky blue fur with purple eyes. And no, not the gray-blue type.
Let me just list a bunch of possible pelt colours. And yes, these come in different shades and dilutions of those colours.
1. Ginger
2. Black
3. Golden~basically like a light ginger colour
4. Gray
5. White
6. Brown
7. Cream
8. Blue-gray
9. Silver~rarely
10. Bengal~rarelyBefore Spottedleaf fans attack me for not saying tortoiseshell and calico (or, as the Erins call it, tortoiseshell and white. JUST CALL IT CALICO), I count those pelts as markings.
Here are a list of appropriate markings.
1. Tortoiseshell
2. Calico
3. Mackerel tabby
4. Classic tabby
5. Ticked tabby
6. Spotted tabby
7. Tabby and white
8. White markings, such as a white ear tip/tail tip, maybe a white paw?And lastly, eye colours.
1. Green
2. Amber
3. Orange
4. Yellow
5. Gold
6. Copper
7. Blue~rarely
8. Red~almost never
9. Pink/lilac~almost neverNo, blue eyes are not common. So stop spawning them onto every single one of your ocs. Red and pale eyes with a lilac/pink tint to them are associated with albinism in cats which is the rarest type. So I don't want to see Winterface's purple eyes.
Now, let's fix Winterface and make her look more realistic. Instead of pigment blue, let's change her pelt to blue-gray. This is a dark gray with a sort of blue hue to it. Absolutely not sky blue. Now we need some markings, unless you want to just stick with solid blue gray. I'm going to give Winterface a white paw. Let's pick out eye colour. I'll say green!
Now, Winterface looks like a normal cat who doesn't engage with unicorn activity and has a crescent moon on her forehead- or was it a star?
Anyway, point is, your story will be much more successful if you're realistic with it. Like, obviously don't have a fucking rainbow cat. I think you've got the point.
Another thing is villains. Why are the villains always dark furred, and toms? Why can't we have a silver tabby she cat with blue eyes be the villain?? Change it up a bit. Villains aren't born evil so if your argument is that those colours just resonate evil and bad to you, let me ask you something. Would you go storming up to Gooogoogagakit's mom and warn her that he is a blood thirsty villain because his fur is black?
No!
Also, genetics. If your she cat protagonist is ginger, then her parents can't both be black cats. Think about it. There's so many sites that will be able to help you with genetics in cats, all it takes is a simple google search.
