I see this everywhere, and while it was originally a pretty good trope when only a few writers were doing it, and they wrote it very well. Keep in mind, it can still be done if you write it uniquely and really, really well.
However if you aren't completely confident with your writing, STAY AWAY FROM FORBIDDEN RELATIONSHIPS!
Golly oh gosh, I hate these. Especially when there's a love triangle involved. Listen, I get your characters are maybe not going to find love in their own Clan, but at least make it realistic. These cats won't choose love blindly, they've been taught to follow the code above all else their whole entire life (unless your Clan have different rules) so if you're going to write one you better write it RIGHT, because this trope is incredibly overused.
Honestly, you don't even have to write about romance at all! Romance likely isn't going to fix your incoming doom of a plot, and even if it does? Maybe it doesn't end in a happy ending. Maybe they don't work out. Come on, get creative with it! I see way too many people on here taking the expected route of them living "happily ever after" and sometimes its fine and I appreciate it, but come on. Throw some spice into the mix.
Kind of a short one, but the point is, you better be careful with romance, and make sure it has relevance to the plot.
