Chapter Five

Madeleine came back to the upper city along with his fellow paladins & knights, his first instinct was to go to the hospital first due to the missing cookies' conditions.

Republicans who saw them passing by were frightened, shocked, just in silence to see the conditions they were in, it gave them a warning of "Don't dare to place a single foot in the lower city"

Soon the missing cookies were now in the hospital room, except for Madeleine of course since nothing bad happened to him. Madeleine's family immediately went to the hospital to see him once they'd heard of his arrival.

"Oh, Madeleine my son thank divines your all right! !" Grand Madeleine exclaimed hugging Madeleine in relief, it of course surprised Madeleine a bit as sometimes his mother wouldn't be this unformal but he smiled back and hugged her back.

As soon as Grand Madeleine had heard of Madeleine's order to go down there she was immense panicking, mothers love for sure...

Madeleine then smiled, "There's no need to be upset Mother!" Madeleine responded proudly, "For I am alive and well!"

"Oh, Madeleine look at your boots!" Madeleine's first auntie shrieked, "They are covered in mud again!"

"Oh my goodness! Did you get in a fight?!" Madeleine's third auntie pointed out worriedly staring at Madeleine's shoulder cloth which had a small rip, which caught his attention.

Huh? He didn't feel that... Was it from that battle earlier...?

"No!" Madeleine immediately lied as he smiled, "I just hit my shoulder on the corner of a brick wall!"

He was good at lying sometimes, plus...he remembered that... threat...It gave him the shivers. But there was another strange feeling about Clotted Cream, he felt like he shouldn't say a word about him. His heart didn't desire to...For some reason, he wanted to keep it a secret.

"Did you find Clotted Cream? Was there anything suspicious you saw down there?" suddenly a cookie asked, Madeleine then turned his attention towards the cookie.

"Oh! Elder Custard Cookie!" Madeleine responded as he saw not only Elder Custard but the rest of the elders as well, "And the other elders!" They all must have come here after hearing about Madeleine's achievement of getting the missing cookies.

"Well? Answer me." Elder Custard responded waiting for Madeleine's answer, Madeleine blinked unsure how to answer. Elder Custard was Clotted Cream's father, should he tell him?...

"Uh...no...I sadly did not see the consul, no sign of Financier cookie either..." Madeleine lied again in sorrowfulness, "Only paladin I haven't found..." He was sorrowful because he had to lie to this father.

"Even if I did tell him, I'm sure if Elder Custard were to know what his son is now.. he'll be upset and shocked..." Madeleine thought frowning, "He would be a sad father for sure..." At least that was what he thought.

"....Though I found all the missing cookies tied up in rope as if they were there for days," Madeleine also said, "With no food at all, they were all starving."

"In fact, all of them are brutally beaten up." suddenly Captain Caviar added as he came from the nurses' room, checking on the missing cookies' conditions, "They're all awfully thin."
