Hooo, from the moment they first met (specifically after Luna left). Rudolph remembers Tony.
The blonde carried him unto the comfortable bed, where Luna often talked about how comfortable they were.
"I'm Tony Thompson, Luna's friend at school." Although Rudolph had heard Luna say his name, the blonde introduced himself.
And well, mother did teach him manners. "Rudolph Sackville-Bagg, a vampire of the night."
"So, anything you can tell me about vampires?" The mortal asked excitedly.
This would take some thinking for Rudolph, as he was aware that humans did know quite a bit about vampires, "Well based on the fact you have vampire stuff in your room you know plenty." It was honestly impressive how much this mortal knew about vampires.
Tony was quick to ask about another thing that piqued his interest, "Oh. What about Butterfly Vampires?"
The immortal may not know much about them, but whatever info he had would surely satisfy some of Tony's inquisitiveness.
"Ah yes, our special sisterhood. They can stand in the sun and moon. However, they have visible wings that shine at the slightest sliver of light, making them obvious to human hunters. Sadly there are also not many left. Only a few dozen in the world. Just six exist here. Two adults, a teen, and the rest are children. They also live an average mortal life instead of being immortal like us."
"Wow." The life and emotion that lit up those eyes, glittering like his freckles.
"Yes, wow," though Rudolph almost meant Tony, "They also have magic but that is rare. Being with the two adults. We're hoping one of the kids will have some." It was incredibly helpful, especially with times constantly changing.
Tony looked like he was in pain when he said, "That's terrible." Rudolph knew that, he knew how lucky he was to have his clan and family. But still, he couldn't help but wonder what it is like to be as free as they were.
"Not as terrible as my family almost losing their lives to Rookery. That bastard constantly hunts us down for no reason. He would only stop if it meant our destruction." Anger laced in his voice, remembering the pain his family went through. How his clan was still trapped.
"Luna won't let that happen. Neither will I." Tony reassured Rudolph.
But it had worked only a little, "A mere mortal can't stop him. Though he is mortal he is protected by the law of monster hunters. They'll notice his death and where. Or if he's in major distress." The vampire hissed, turning away from Tony, facing the moon.
The moon was almost full and glowing softly. A sight he'd grown used to, a sight he could barely love after witnessing it for 313 years. The stars and moon mapped in his head, perfectly calculating the positions and constellations of that night. After all, what else is a vampire to do with all that time being hunted and hidden?
"I can still do something. But first, I gotta put my school stuff away." The determination in Tony's voice carried throughout the room, sending shivers down Rudolph's spine. The boy before him was brave, though just a mortal and teen.
Rudolph knew Tony's eyes kept wandering to him. Though he looked busy, he still glanced at him every now and then.
"Mortal stop staring at me," smugness in his voice, a little worry put behind it.
