The rest of the car ride was silent, Paul couldn't bear to make a noise, never mind say anything. He felt a tear rolling down his cheek but he couldn't wipe it away, He was practically paralyzed with fear for his mother and brother.

"All right, here we are," said Jim, getting out of the car as Paul followed.

They walked (ran) to the entrance of the hospital before Jim said; "Take my hand, I don't care how embarrassed you are, it's going to be busy in there and I'm not losing you." Paul did as he was told and took his fathers hand, still unable to speak, as they walked into the busy hospital.

They marched straight up to the reception. Paul noticed it must have been his mothers friend Laura's shift as she was there. "Hello Jim, Paul," She said cheerfully "Are you here to visit Mary? I didn't know she was working today, and where's little Mikey?" She inquired

"You haven't heard?" Jim asked

"No, what's wrong?"

"Michael and Mary... they've been in an accident." Jim said, his voice cracking

"Oh Christ..."

"Can you check to see what rooms they're in?"

"Yes, yes of course!" She said tapping away at the large and bulky computer in front of her. "Alright go up they stairs," she said pointing "and then take a left, you'll find Dr. Allen, you remember him Jim?" She asked and Jim nodded "He'll take you to them." Jim nodded and started walking when he heard "Jim! Good luck," Jim nodded again before he and Paul made their way up the stairs.

As soon as they made it upstairs, they saw a bunch of doctors running around frantically, Jim and Paul started to stumble forward.

"Christ, there they are! Go get prepped for the surgery... NOW!" Shouted the man Paul assumed to be Dr. Allen "Jim, I need a word before you go see them"

"All right, Paul, stay here" And Jim went to the side with Dr. Allen for about a minute before returning to Paul and crouching down ever so slightly to reach Paul's height. Paul could see his dad had finally broke and was crying.

"Alright buddy, only one in a r-room at a time, so you're gonna go see your b-brother first, alright?" He said through tears

"Yes dad."

"He's under anaesthetic, so he's unconscious b-but he might be able to h- hear you. They're taking him for e-e-emergency surgery in twenty minutes they're going to get prepped for it now, so you need to be quick, a-alright? Then you're going to go see your mother, she's still c-c-conscious but also needs emergency surgery. I wasn't sure if I should tell you this but... the doctors aren't sure they'll m-make it s-s-so... you should say g-goodbye Paulie." he sobbed. Paul just nodded, still in able to speak.

Jim put his hand out for Paul to take and they followed the Dr. Allen to a set of doors.

"Alright, Michael's in that one," said Dr. Allen, pointing to the one Paul was standing in front of " and Mary's in the other one. We'll come and get you when it's time to swap and then we'll get you again before it's time for their surgery." He said.

"Alright, be brave Paulie, it'll be fine, no matter what happens we have each other. Now go make the most of the time you have with them now." Jim said before taking a deep breath and walking into the room Mary was in.

Paul then walked into the room Mike was in, but upon seeing him felt incredibly ill.
