a mistake richie made was believing things would be fine. with what the losers have delt with in the past, he shouldn't except much. but he thought things would be different. that he would be okay.

richie slammed the door in his mother's face, screaming, "don't bother me!"

he locked himself into the room and screamed into his pillow, trying to keep himself from punching a hole in his wall.

after he made his throat sore and voice raw from screaming, he had to put on music to calm him down. he grabbed his walkman and got one of his mixtapes. skipping to his favourite song, and the part he relates to right now.

once upon a time i was falling in love
now i'm only falling apart
there's nothing i can do
a total eclipse of the heart
once upon a time there was light in my life
but now there's only love in the dark
nothing i can say
a total eclipse of the heart

everything had gone to shit in the matter of months. things would probably have been different if he didn't say those words.

"yeah, whatever. i'm done."

four words that lead to four months of silence.

one mistake lead to one heartbreak and one guilty teenager.

you should never finally believe things are going good. because when you do, you find yourself worse than you were.

that night, richie cried himself to sleep. not talking to anyone, nor apologising to maggie.

the next day, richie skipped school.

and one day of skipping added up to a whole week of skipping.

richie wouldn't get out of bed. he would barely even eat. only if it was forced down by either himself or his parents.

"richie! eddie called you!"

eddie?

he cares?

"okay!" richie said after a beat of silence.

he picked up the phone on his bedside table and spoke.

"hello?"

"hey, richie!" his voice was happy and full of life and love.

"eds!" he tried to match his enthusiasm but couldn't.

"what's wrong?" eddie asked.

"nothing, spaghetti." richie lied.

"if you ever need to talk, i'm here, trashmouth."

richie didn't respond, but eddie could still hear his breathing so he knows he's still there.

"i love you, rich."

"i love you too, eds." and the line disconnects.

a small part of richie wanted to believe him, so he said it back. but he knows that it wasn't true. it was just a pity 'i love you' and not a real one.

i need to move on.

he doesn't love me.

it's all fake.

with the negative thoughts swarming in his head, richie fell back asleep for the rest of the day.

sorry if this sucks but yeah
