Anthony
It was two weeks and three days since I got my license and was able to drive on my own. It was a terrific feeling, being independent in that way.
I was pulling out of the school car park with a smile on my face when I noticed that kid Ian, all alone, meandering around the bus stop. He caught my eye, but I quickly looked away. I didn’t want to talk to him. I didn’t want to be pulled into the teasing he got.
“Hey!”
Crap, they’d closed the bus gate.
“Hey you!”
I had to turn around.
“Hello!”
And look at Ian again.
“HEY ANTHONY!”
-Thunk-
He’d thrown his hands onto the bonnet of my car. I squinted and sighed before tilting my head out of the window.
“Hey Ian…what’s up?”
“Can you give me a ride home?”
He looked really distressed but I didn’t want to waste my time dropping him off.
“Can’t you walk home?” I asked.
“I live too far away,” he answered.
“Well, can’t you take the bus?”
“The school busses are all gone and the next public bus doesn’t come for another 45 minutes.”
I sighed. I had to. He was going to be left alone with his bullies otherwise.
“Get in,” I said.
He jumped into the passenger seat and thanked me a hundred times before we took off. He gave me instructions to his house but the car soon fell silent again.
“So…how’s life Anthony?” He asked.
“Good…pretty fine.” I answered, “And what about you? I mean, I see you’ve survived since sixth grade.”
“Barely,” he half-laughed.
I looked over at him for a second. He was all dishevelled and pale with dark circles surrounding his eyes. And he was wearing a hoodie.
“God, dude! Are you wearing a hoodie? It’s like, 85 degrees right now! Aren’t you frying?”
“No, I’m fine,” He replied, crossing his arms.
I laughed, causing him to laugh, and before we knew it we were deep in conversation about the stupidest things. I turned onto his street and sighed.
“Thanks for the ride home,” he said.
“It’s alright. If you ever need a ride just call me,” I said.
Who cares if I’m friends with Ian. That doesn’t change things. I’m still me.
A/N So I want to continue this and I've written more, but I'm not happy with it so it might be a while before I update. I hope everyone's enjoying so far :)
