A/N Although I have been uploading these chapters pretty consecutively over the past few weeks, it may not continue like so. I have exams coming up and in turn a ton of homework. Even though, I hope you guys enjoy this chapter! I worked pretty hard on it ^-^ And we finally get to hear from Ian again! Yay!

Ian

I leaned against the bonnet of Anthony’s car and waited for him to turn up. I wondered what we’d do that afternoon. I had a bit of homework so maybe we could help each other, or we could just hang out like the previous days. I didn’t really care. Everything was going smoothly so nothing really mattered.

I would be getting my licence soon, I thought. Then maybe I could drive Anthony on some days and we could just hang out most of the time. Maybe we could actually do stuff on weekends and go places, like to a beach considering it was summer. Maybe pick up some chicks.

Nah, I was too nervous around lots of normal people, there was no way I could impress a pretty girl.

The flop of shoes against the pavement caught my attention and I looked over my shoulder. Anthony was walking down the slope and was staring down at the ground, his hands in his pockets. He didn’t look so good, like maybe he was going to pass out.

I slid off the hood and smiled at him.

“Hey Ant,” I said, “What’s with the long face?”

He didn’t say anything. He just dropped his bag off his shoulder and startled to rifle through it.

“What, did you turn into a horse or something? You’re not a horse, my friend.”

He pulled his car keys out of the bag and unlocked his door.

“Tough class then? You in trouble for blowing up some magnesium?”

He chucked his bag into the passenger seat and then sat in the car himself. I started to become kind of confused.

“Not that, I’m assuming?”

He shut the door and put the keys in the ignition. I tugged on the door handle.

“Ant?” I said and tapped lightly on the window.

He turned the car on and let it warm up for a moment. I rapped harder on the window and yanked at the handle. There was no way he couldn’t see me. No way he couldn’t hear me.

“Anthony! Open up dude! I’m still out here!” I yelled, even though I already knew what was going on.

He squeezed his eyes closed real tight before he obviously sighed and drove off, nearly running over my foot.

I stood on the curb and watched his black car disappear out of the bus gate and around a corner. He left me. He knew what happened if I was left alone at the school. He knew that I wasn’t safe. It was almost common sense for the students of the school. He knew everything that he needed to know, and he still left me.

He left me.

It was only a few seconds after my mind really registered what was going on that I heard footsteps behind me. Derrick was coming for me. I bolted. It was a stupid choice. I only made it a few short feet before I was squirming on the ground, lying on my back from being hit in the chest by one of Derrick’s followers.

“Nice try, Hecox,” Derrick said, “But not good enough.”
