The bond with siblings is really special. No matter how much they fight like Tom and Jerry but they can't see eachother in pain.

Sophie's phone was ringing, but her brother wasn't picking up. This was making her really anxious. She tried calling him one more time and this time he picked up the call.

"What's wrong with you? Why weren't you picking up the call? Are you fine? Where are you? Are you in college? Is everything fine there? Did you see the news?" She asked him, her anxiety getting the best of her, tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

"Hey sis, I'm fine," he replied, finally letting out the breath that she had been holding on to for so long.

He continued, "I'm not in college... actually, I had bunked college today to come and play games at my friend's place... I saw the news, but I'm really confused about what's happening. I want to come back home soon, but right now, it's not possible. I'll try to reach there whenever it is possible. By the way, are you fine?"

"I'm absolutely fine. You take care of yourself and only come back when you feel safe... I had talked to mom and dad, and they can't come here until everything is settled. Call me up in case of any emergency," she said, trying to sound as normal as possible.

"Yes, sure. Bye, sis. Take care," he said before hanging up.

She sighed in relief. She was scared, but she had to be strong, at least for her brother.

It was already 4 in the evening. She stood up from the couch and went to the kitchen. She opened all the drawers of the kitchen to see how much food was left and for how long it would last.

After checking everything, she concluded that the food would last for at least 5-6 days for her brother and herself.

The outbreak wasn't going to get under control soon, so they were going to run out of food and die either from starvation or by getting bitten by zombies in the process of getting food from outside.

Author's note:

Family is always the first priority for anyone except for some cases which i think we shouldn't discuss now. If you are thinking that why Sophie got up to check the food then it's quite obvious. Food is one of the basic necessities to survive in any condition, we all have experienced it during the lockdown imposed because of the COVID pandemic, i don't have to say anything further.
