4. Help

Sophie sat on her bed and started thinking about all the possibilities that could happen with her and her brother and how she was going to overcome them. She wasn't sure if she could survive in such a situation but she was adamant about not giving up, at least not so soon.

She was thinking really hard about it but her mind was a mess. She tried to remain positive, but the situation wasn't helping. How could you think straight when you just came to know that you are stuck in a freaking zombie apocalypse!!

After thinking and overthinking about everything, she reached the conclusion that she should just go with the flow and stop worrying about the future, rather focus on the present.

Evening, 5pm.

Her mind was so occupied in thinking about so many things that she kind of lost track of time. It was already evening. She couldn't figure out what to do now, so she decided to peek outside from the window to see if she could see something happening outside.

While she was sitting near the window of her bedroom and studying her surroundings, she heard more growling sound and a scream from nearby. She panicked and closed the window and backed away from it.

Her heartbeats were rushed and breathing was uneven. She couldn't let herself get a panic attack again. So she decided to drop that plan of studying her surroundings.

She thought maybe she could go on the terrace later on to get a better idea about her surroundings. She was about to turn towards the kitchen to get some water to calm herself down when she heard a knock on the main door of her house. She got goosebumps by the thought of a zombie outside her door. But do zombies knock? Obviously not~ It has to be a human!

But as far as her memories go, she was sure that all the gates were locked, so how did someone get inside the compound wall of her house and reach the main door???Did someone climb over the compound wall???

Before she could figure out anything, she heard someone calling out and saying:

???:"Please is there someone inside? Help us out, pleaseee ..let us in... "

Sophie was really unsure what to do. So she then decided to tiptoe towards the door and see from the eye hole. On doing it, she could vaguely see 3 people standing outside.

From whatever she managed to see, they looked normal, but the probability of someone surviving amongst the crowd of zombies was very low, but it wasn't zero as she herself was one of the fortunate ones to survive at least till now. But they were outside. What if they were bitten or scratched?

Nonetheless, she couldn't just ignore the small probability of them being not infected. The thought of someone dying because of her, because of her not opening the door, was also weighing her down. Her heart was telling her to open the door, but her brain was stopping her from doing anything reckless.

At last, she was about to open the door, but then she thought that there is a possibility that they could just kill her to get control over the house if she opens the door. She couldn't just trust anyone. It wasn't her fault that they were in an apocalypse situation. Even if it's being selfish, she shouldn't open the door. She made a firm decision. She remained silent and started to observe how the situation unfolds.

It has been a few minutes since then when one of them said that maybe nobody is there in the house. Once they moved to the next house, she sighed in relief. She even felt guilty thinking what if they were not infected and were good people, they might die because she decided not to help them when they were in dire need of it.

She went back to her room and opened her laptop and decided to search for some information about the outbreak so she can have some knowledge of what to do and what not to do. Hopefully the internet was working fine!

Not even fifteen minutes had passed when Sophie heard more growling sounds, louder and clearer this time. She knew it was just a few meters away, possibly coming from the backside of her house. Adrenaline surged through her body, and she found herself in a fight or flight situation.

She went near the back door to see if the sound was actually from her backyard, praying that it shouldn't be. At that moment she heard screaming sounds probably from her neighbours house.
Her face became pale and hands started shaking she tried to remain as calm as possible.The next few moments were silent but then there was some shuffling sounds coming from very close proximity.
