Dreams Pt 2

Atlas's POV

'Where was I. The last thing I had seen was my parents. This must've been a dream. It often occurred to people when they closed there eyes. My dark surroundings faded into a forest, light of the sun shimmering through the cracks between the tree trunks and branches.

The grass looked so green, the sounds of birds chirping and the insects singing. A pair of butterflies flew in front of me, playing with the other. The circled my head and I giggled, feeling tickled when there wings grazed my skin.

I walked forward, feeling something in me stir at the feeling of nature. I walked over to a thick tree, watching slowly as ants trailed up in lines.

I turned and walked passed a few trees, the feeling in me leaping gallantly.

Until suddenly it all stopped. Everything stopped, the feeling, the joy, all with a blink. It was just a second but as I opened my eyes, everything was dark. I looked around what was once lit, turned dark very quickly.

The tree's had all just been the decayed bark. All the leaves had fallen on the ground, covered in rot. A shiver travelled down my spine, my eyes watering in fear. I looked to my feet and gasped when the two butterflies that were just playing were, gray with holes in their wings. 

Fog started to fill in and I began to run, god knows where but something in told me to. I glanced back at what I was trying to run from, my eyes widening in fright when I heard screams of multiple people along with a laugh that frightened me deeply.

Escaping the area with trees, I reached a plain, much like the forest just no trees. The flowers had been all wilted and dead.

And before I knew it, I tripped. My body landed roughly on the ground, as fog seemed to reach this area as well. As I stood up and dusted my dress, I glanced back at my surrounding and gaped at the fully covered meadow. 

What had once been empty grasslands were filled to the brim with water vapor. My body began to feel sticky due to the humidity as I walked backwards, trying to grasp the situation only to catch a putrid smell.

I turned and screamed at the sight of a dear, lying down, half dead. It's chest rose as half of it's body was coated red while the part closer to her happened to be all broken down and covered with magots and decay.

His head was partially just his skull but his eyes stared at me with such pain that I broke down into tears, afraid for myself and for it. And before my mind understood, I ran, faster than ever this time, tears flying back as I sobbed, a pain in my heart at the sight of the poor animal.

My ears caught another shrill scream, this time of the animal crying out in pain and I cried harder, my vision now blurry.

I then stumbled upon the entry of the forest I had escaped when I arrived here and fell to my knees, sobbing in fear. I would never see my mum or dad, or my crazy uncles or my kingdom. i would never get to be queen, never get to learn of my powers, never get to find love like mummy and daddy did.

I sat and brought my knees to my chest and I cried into it, cradling my self wishing for my mummy to be here, wishing she would hug me and hold me close while my dad would fend of all the scary frightening monsters. And that's when I heard crunching of leaves, my body shook with fear.

Who was it, was it the monster that had been laughing so cruelly, that had infested this land and made it dark.

"Are you ok" a deep voice asked.

My mind blanked as my chest heaved up and down. Was I ok, of course not. My parents weren't here, I was alone. 

Then I felt a hand on my shoulder, and jolted with surprise.

"Hey, it's ok. Your safe now, come one" that deep voice spoke. I wanted to look so badly but what if that was the monster that had been chasing me all this time.

"Ok, this is going to sound scary but I need you to open your eyes. Your safe now, I promise" he spoke. His voice was gentle, like dad's just deeper. I finally remove my arms and look up, meeting sky blue eyes.

"Are you the monster?" I ask

"No, I am not. And this isn't a place for you, so come." he says and holds his hand out to me. I nod, and take it, not knowing what else to do. The moment I take his hand, everything vanishes.
