The Yule Ball was coming faster than I wanted it to and all I could think of was Fred in dress robes holding out his hand for me as we walked through the doorway and into the ballroom.

Like that was ever going to happen.

Fred had been flirting with me way more then usual. Especially when Oliver was around. Me and Oliver had gone to Hogsmeade once more after the first time, him never asking why our first date got cut short thankfully, and Fred was having none of it.

He would constantly hang around when me and Oliver were talking and even try to steal me away sometimes.

The only thing I couldn't understand was why. Why was he doing this? He doesn't fancy me back. So what was the reason behind this mischief? My only hunch was that he was trying to protect his best friend. Me. His best friend.

I set down my book I was "Reading" and groaned at the thought of us just being best friends.

Ollie was great. He really was. But there was no one like Fred. I leaned my head back on the velvet sofa and closed my eyes, book in my lap, letting my thoughts overtake me.

Until I felt a tap on my shoulder.

A smile appeared on the brown haired boys face as I opened my eyes and looked at him.

"What you thinking about?" He asked in his thick Scottish accent.

I sighed.

"A lot of things"

"Want to head to lunch?"

"Sure"

I smiled and took his hand that he had held out for me. We had just passed through the portrait hole when...

"Y/NNNN!!!" An arm suddenly linked through my arm, pulling me away from The Quidditch Captain. I sighed again.
This is what I was talking about.

"Hello Beautiful. I'm guessing your heading to lunch?"

The ginger said from beside me. "Yes Fred" my voice was clearly laced with irritation as I unlinked my arm from his and went back to holding Oliver's hand.

I glanced at Ollie only to see him looking at me with a slightly amused, slightly sad expression.

Yes I loved, I meant liked Fred. But I couldn't just ditch Ollie this way. "Bye Fred" I said as me and Oliver sped up leaving a hurt Weasley behind.

Fred's POV:

I looked at the two ahead of me. The two that just left me behind. They were perfect for each other. I groaned and sat down against the wall. No, they weren't dating, but yes, they were getting pretty darn close to it.

I couldn't lose her like this. What happened? I had her within my reach, I even made out with her in a broom closet! And now I've let her go. Why does this have to be so complicated!!

My only hope now was to ask her to the ball, that is if Oliver hasn't asked her yet. Stupid Oliver.

I had to make this work. I had to get her back. I got up with a newly found sense of urgency. As I ran down the hall hoping to catch up with her I grabbed flowers from a nearby vase and cast a spell on them to turn into her favorite flowers.
