Knocking woke Meggie up a couple hours later. She dragged her legs to the edge of her bed, "Come in," Meggie said, weakly. Her Mother walked in,
"Hey, sorry for waking you up from your nap," Mother said, apologetically.
"Nah, it's fine," Meggie said. Her Mother gave a weak smile. We worried about you. We found out you had left the house," Mother paused,
" One of your grandfather's workers came to us, and told us you were with your Grandfather...I was so worried... Me and your Father. Then we found out what happened to Grandfather,'' Mother started tearing up, sniffling. Meggie embraced her, tearing up, sharing her pain with her.
Meggie and Mother released each other, "Oh, by the way, I made your favorite food... Steak!" Mother said, face tear-stained. Meggie chuckled,
"Sounds delicious." Meggie said, "Yes.. Let's go down to dinner together, ok sweetie?" Mother replied. Meggie nodded, and they both went downstairs. Their meal was full of conversation, laughter, and jokes, then Meggie said, "Where's Dad?" "He is working late," Her Mother replied. There was silence for a moment, then Mother cleared her throat,
"Ready for school?"
"Mom, I'm home-schooled.''
"I know, I'm just asking are you ready for school?
Are you prepared for school? Are you ready for school?"
Meggie thought for a moment before responding,"I think so, I don't really know. I might just have to be."
Mother nodded.
"Well, you can always come to me for help,"
"And I understand if you aren't quite ready for school yet."
Meggie sighed, "Thank you for that."
