"Hey, you still there?" Dirk said, over the phone. "Yea, just thinking," Meggie said.
"About what?"
"Huh?"
Dirk huffed, "What are you thinking about?"
"Oh, uh...Nothing...Really.."
"You sure?"
Meggie sighed, '' I'm just still thinking about everything that has happened," Meggie paused, "...And what happened to my Grandfather."
"He worked underground right?"
"Yea."
"Really? My Dad's friend worked underground too." "But then the thing collapsed."
"I'm sorry."
"Yea.
"Well, the cave collapsed on..my... Grandfather."
"I'm so sorry for your loss."
"I'm sorry for yours too."
They continued to comfort each other, and talking about memories. Until Meggie then changed the subject.
"So.." Meggie cleared her throat. "Do you wanna meet up?"
"Yea... How 'bout tomorrow?"
"Yea."
"Hey–" Meggie was cut short, when her phone started buzzing.
"Uh– Hey Dirk? My friend Kiara is calling, um... I'm going to take it.. So I'll call you later?"
"Yea, sounds cool."
"Ok, byee."
Meggie hangs up and answers her friend before Kiara hangs up.
"Heyo!" Meggie said, excitement buzzed under her skin.
"What's up girl!"
"Did you make it in?"
"You won't believe it.."
Meggie waited for an answer, "Yes!"
"Omg! I'm so proud of you! I knew you would make it to the Basketball Championships!"
"I know right! I'm just filled with so much joy, I want to scream!"
"Girl! Scream!"
Kiara and Meggie screamed for joy. Well, it was more a whoop than a scream. The girls then calmed down, then once there was silence, Kiara spoke,
"So, how's school?"
"Girl, I haven't even started yet."
"Oohh, yea, that's right!"
"Have you?"
"Yea, my parents wanted me to start early."
"Yea... I don't know yet. Part of me dosen't feel like starting yet, yet the other part of me thinks I should. I don't know. There's just been so much chaos right now."
"I understand, I feel that way a lot."
"Mhm."
"Meggie, food is ready." Her Mother called from downstairs.
