« If I understand correctly, for a week, you have been investigating behind my back and on a case that doesn't even exist!? » Chip hears, sitting behind the closed office door.
After saving them from the Magnelectrifier, Putty had brought everyone back to the police station and was now giving his three agents a hell of a lot of trouble.
« Not only are you running after ghosts, but you've also put civilians in danger! »
« The Magnelectrifier is no ghost! » Bonkers tries but...
« The Magnelectrifier? What is this invention again? »
« This is the name given to the aggressor of the last days... » Miranda explains.
« Are you still on it? » their boss gets angry. « How many times do I have to repeat it? There is no serial abuser! There is no Magnelectrifier or anything like that! »
« Sir... » Ellie tries but Putty cuts her off:
« You shut up, Steckler! »
Chip sighs hearing the young woman being blamed when she is right.
The Magnelectrifier exists and it had gone after Dale!
Hugging his knees to his chest, the chocolate-furred chipmunk stops himself from crying. His behavior immediately alerts Monterey Jack. Gadget was a little further away phoning Zipper to reassure him and be able to hear their children.
« It's not your fault, Chippie. » the adventurer assures, catching the eye of his friend. « Miss Ellie, Bonkers and Miranda knew very well what they were doing by investigating behind their boss's back. »
« I know that, Monty... » Chip sighs, wiping away the tears that threaten to fall. « But... it's mostly that... when the Magnelectrifier attacked, I dropped Dale's diary. » he admits, almost ashamed. « We have no clues to find him now. »
« Oooooh! » the mustachioed mouse smirks as he rummages in his jacket pocket, puzzling his chipmunk friend. « Are you talking about that diary? »
With these words, he takes out the famous notebook.

As Miranda prevented him from going to help his friend during the attack, he had picked up the diary Chip had dropped and shoved it in his pocket, knowing it would be useful to them. And given the first surprised then overjoyed face of his young friend, he did very well.

« Monty! You're the best! » Chip smiles as he jumps around his neck, making the older mouse laugh as he pats his head.
After a brief embrace, Chip retrieves the small notebook and hugs it to his chest, reassured. He knows that it is in there that he will find all the clues to find Dale. And for the first time in years, he can't wait to see his friend's silly smile again... but at the same time, given the few excerpts he's read in Dale's garage, Chip knows that what he's about to read will break his heart.
