Amelia slowly opened her eyes and found herself in an unfamiliar room. As it all suddenly dawned on her, she climbed out of the bed and frowned with confusion as she saw her sneakers neatly in front of her. She slipped them on and ran to the door. She carefully opened it and checked that it was clear. Amelia crept across the landing and looked in the other rooms, one was a bathroom, one had stuff everywhere and one was rather full of old stuff but she noticed a familiar figure in the bed.

“Bella,” she whispered and ran over to the bed. She gently nudged her sister and began to feel hopeless after there was no response. “Bella?” she whispered again. She sounded childish to her own ears and on the verge of crying.

“She’s fine,” a voice said, coming from the door. “She just needs to rest. Now come with me.”

Amelia didn’t like the tone of his voice. “No,” she said defiantly.

“It wasn’t a yes or no question. It was an order.”

“Damon Salvatore!”

Amelia crossed her arms and glared at Damon as she heard another voice from somewhere in the house, a female voice. A girl with long blonde hair appeared beside Damon in a flash and pushed him against the wall roughly.

“Hello to you too Caroline,” Damon said grimly.

Amelia began backing away with a little whimper. “Bella, wake up,” she whispered, not taking her eyes off of the two vampires.

The older girl looked at her and then shot Damon a hard look before smiling at Amelia. “Stefan told me that there were two girls in the house.”

Amelia looked around for something to use in an act of self-defense and grabbed the baseball bat from the corner. “Stay back vampire!” she growled.

Caroline let out a little laugh. “Stefan was right!” she said to Damon. “This one is a real cutie.”

Damon watched as Amelia raised the bat. “Watch out. This one also has a really good swing. The cuteness is a trap.”

Caroline turned back to Amelia. “What’s your name?”

Amelia stubbornly clenched her jaw and glared at them. She studied the two vampires closely and saw how easy it must have been for her father to have fallen Damon’s act.

“Are you going to be decent today or are we going to have a repeat of last night?” Damon asked, growing irritated.

Amelia glared at him. “What part? The part where you killed my parents and possibly my sister? Or the part where you forced me to stay here?” she asked coldly.

Caroline frowned at Amelia as she thought. She turned to Damon and shook her head. “Damon, if Elena finds out…”

“She’s not going to,” Damon interrupted. “And you know fine well what part I meant,” he said pointing at Amelia. “Now answer Caroline’s question!”

“Bite me! I dare you!” Amelia shouted at him.

Damon was in front of her in a flash and knocked the baseball bat out of her hands. He grabbed her wrist as she tried to move backwards and saw the defiance in her eyes. “Do you not think that if I had wanted to do that, then you would already be dead?” he asked her.

Amelia frowned and looked at away. “My name’s Amelia,” she said looking at Caroline.

Damon nodded and let her go. “Now go downstairs,” he said.

Amelia walked towards the door and turned back to him. “You can’t compel me you know,” she said, flashing him a smile.

Damon watched her disappear and looked at Caroline. “Is that even possible?” he asked.

Caroline smirked at him. “I’m not the one you should be asking.”

“Right, witchy has all the answers,” he said.

“What about that one?” Caroline asked, motioning to the still body.

Damon sighed. “She’s alive.”

“Shouldn’t she see a doctor or something?” Caroline asked him.

“Stefan’s going to get her some blood bags from the hospital,” he said, leading her out of the room. Damon closed the door and they both headed down the stairs.

“Well, you should at least let Bonnie check her out,” she said, sounding concerned. “I’m pretty sure that Amelia will be really affected by all this.”

“Oh really,” Damon asked, smirking at her. He led her into the kitchen and pointed at Amelia. “Does she look like she’s really affected?” He couldn’t hold back his smile as he saw her sitting on the counter as Stefan made breakfast, talking to him.

“I like your brother!” she shouted over to him.

Damon raised his eyebrows at her. “Well you haven’t knocked him out yet so that’s a good sign,” he joked.

Amelia smiled at him. “It’s still early,” she said.

“Do you play baseball?” Stefan asked her.

Amelia nodded. “Yeah, I’ve been playing it since I was seven. My dad… taught me…” she trailed off.

Damon watched as her gaze became distant and frowned as he saw the lost look in her eyes.

“And you said that she wasn’t affected,” Caroline hissed at him. “Elena is probably the person you need right now to fix this.”

Damon and Stefan looked at her with horrified looks. “No,” Stefan said.

Caroline rolled her eyes. “Guys, she’s gone through this. Elena can help you. Plus… she’s still human.”
