"Well finally!" Daniel says throwing his hands up in the air from where he was resting on the sofa across from me and I glared at him. "C'mon D, it's so obvious, I was just waiting for one of you to confess it and dish the details to me." He says with a wide smile on his face, finally allowed to talk after I was finished with my hour-long explanation of my and Max's awkward relationship situation that was only growing more confusing. "To be honest I thought it would be Max, he seemed more likely to crack given that he's truly lovesick." I throw a pillow at him in an attempt to shut him up.
"What if he's not? I heard about the rumours of him and his ex getting back together..." I tell him, shooting him a worried glance that caused his face to soften.
"They might have hooked up a couple of times," Daniel admits in a confession that hurts more than I thought it was going to and I shift in my seat at the uncomfortable tug I feel in my stomach, "but they're definitely not back together." He says reassuring me and I nod while I bite gently on my lip, the stress beginning to take over. "Not going to lie, I didn't realise all of that stuff had happened...I can see why you're both getting utterly mind fucked by the situation."
"Yeah...it's like we gave each other space for two or three months, only for three days to almost completely undo it. One weekend...even without the emotional highs and lows of a race weekend contributing to it, there's still tension I could cut with a fucking knife." I whine in frustration, lightly punching the pillow that is currently sitting on top of my crossed legs.
"You know there have been so many rumours about the necklace right? Everyone thinks it was Matt Grant," he says referencing the actor and I shrug, trying to push it out of my mind.
"It's a logical conclusion given the small fling..." I said, eyes darting to his at the confession. They widened in surprise before he let out a booming laugh.
"Good on you! Was it good? I would hope that the guy would be bad at something...bloody perfect specimen." He says fishing for details and I relent, looking forward to dishing them out.
"Well...if he is bad at something, it's not that," I say suggestively as I wink at him, a blush spreading across my cheeks.
"Damn it." He says and the atmosphere is lighter, I feel lighter having finally confessed everything to someone else. Obviously, as Daniel says other people suspect something, as does the media, but the media believes I'm dating every single other driver so I can happily ignore them. It's more Nick and Olivia, Christian, Pierre, Lando and others that seem to have caught onto the fact that there may be something more going on.
"I think it goes without saying that none of this leaves the room..." I tell him sternly and he nods.
"Scouts honour." He says as he lifts three fingers to his head in a mock salute. "I don't really know what I can say to help though..." he rests his head in his hands as he says this and I nod slowly.
"I didn't think so, it just all felt so heavy. I wanted to get some of it off my chest." I tell him as he bobs his head up and down in understanding.
"I do think you guys could do it, who says the media has to know."
"They'll know...neither of us are exactly good at hiding our emotions about anything. How long do you think it would be until they caught a photo of us kissing or something?" I say questioningly and he winces before agreeing. "And then all the judgement would start about whether it was right or proper to be allowed to date another driver. Whether we were taking it easy on each other." I say scrunching my nose up.
