In the Spotlight (Max Verstappen - Book Two)

Chapter Forty-One

Don't be sad but I might be currently writing one of the last chapters for In the Spotlight...I've kind of run out of motivation and so I've done several time jumps and am just skipping to the end sort of...sorry...I know I've spoken a bit about writing a third but I'm not sure if I will and I definitely won't be for a while because I'm sort of too used to the characters...
Instead I'll be turning my attention to the Pierre story and maybe a Charles one too so make sure you check it out if it happens...I think this book will have about 50 chapters based on where I currently am so yeah...enjoy it while it lasts :)

I also thought about making you wait for this and then decided against...it's kind of long because it's two chapters together so sorry if it's anticlimactic! Enjoy and please comment and vote!

"How do we even begin an argument?" I ask chuckling lightly and I see a smile come on his face.

"I don't know but we've been pretty good at it recently."

An awkward silence descends over both of us and I'm relieved when the air stewardess comes back over with the water and blanket, which Max directs her to give to me and I accept with a tight smile as I also take the water. I fight to bite back a bigger smile as I run my hands over the blanket, it's the exact one that I had recommended to Max when I first came on his plane after my podium in France last year. I told him that even if the plane didn't have beds, he should have blankets to be comfy. I bought it up every single time I flew with him, telling him where the blankets in my flat that he loved came from and what colour he should get for his plane and he never did.

Well...apparently eventually he did.

Once everything is sorted, I'm happy that Senna has abandoned Max and is now back asleep in my lap, smiling happily down at the beautiful puppy as I drink my water. "Why was it so easy earlier?"

"I have no idea," I say as I stroke Senna. "I'm suddenly too tired to be angry. My mood swings are awful at the moment."

"Mine too, one moment I'm fine, the next I'm doing Toto impersonations," Max says as he charades smashing up headphones and I giggle nodding my head in agreement.
"I want to get back to how it was. I, as much as I hate to say this, I understand. If I thought seeing you was interfering with my racing I might have done the same." I say quietly and I see Max's mouth open in shock as I go ahead to try and give us the closure I'm pretty sure we both desperately need.

"I-I..." I hold my hand up to stop him from talking.

"I am still angry with you...because I think it would be weird if I didn't because I didn't want to, to break up," I get a bit choked up before I calm my breathing, trying to get through this. "But it's not like you forced me into this relationship, we talked each other into this...I'm just...I don't know..." I blow up my cheeks in frustration as I try to order my thoughts. "I'm still hurt, but I'm not going anywhere. I want to stay in Red Bull and I want things to go back to how they were before we were together since we can't get that back."

"I don't know what to say," Max says and I chuckle, trying to laugh away the heart palpitations and the tears, nodding as I take another sip of water.

"I don't know either because I don't know how to get back to whatever." Silence settles over us as I look back out the window, my heart beating fast in my chest. "I think what I need to start to get there is to get everything off my chest...and so I'm going to say this once and then move on. I..." I pause as I see Max gaze intently at me and I look at him. "I'm upset that you let racing get in between what we had going on personally, I was at my best and you weren't able to be there with me fully. You told me..." the tears start brewing and I stop as Senna tries to lick them off my face making me pause and let out a giggle. "I-"
