Tony's POV
I sat at the back on the classroom, watching the clock as I waited for Mike to join me. Class started in a few minutes and he still wasn't here. I needed to see him, to talk about yesterday. However Mike never did show up, the clock just kept ticking and the class carried on as normal.
I continued waiting for him during the rest of my classes in the day, wondering if he had just had a dentist appointment or something in the morning that meant he was coming in later, but he never showed up.
He was avoiding me, he was avoiding yesterday's situation and we can't avoid it forever.
I needed to know how he felt. Did he kiss me because he has feelings for me? Or just because he didn't know what else to do?I finally decided to text Mike whilst waking home alone after school. Part of me just wanted to ignore the whole situation, but I knew he clearly didn't want to be the one to confront it and we couldn't dismiss it forever.
'Hey. How come you weren't in school today? Is this about yesterday?'
I stared at my phone for a while waiting impatiently for a reply, but it never came. The longer I waited, the worse I felt about it. This is my fault, and he probably hates me. If I wasn't such a mess yesterday he wouldn't have kissed me. I'm such an idiot for even thinking it was because he has feelings for me, he only did it to stop me crying.
Hours later of me beating myself up about the situation, I finally got a reply from Mike.
"Yeah, I suppose it was because of yesterday. I just need some space, okay?"
'Mike, please talk to me. Are you angry with me? I'm sorry, this is my fault that this happened.' I replied.
'It's not your fault, Tony. Please, just leave me alone for a while, okay?'
I sighed heavily at his reply. I've ruined the first proper friendship I've had in years, and I'm only making it worse. I knew this friendship would be too good to be true. The next morning, I again waited for Mike as I sat at the back of the class waiting for the first lesson to start.
It was about a minute to the start of the lesson when Mike finally arrived, walking in to the class towards the seat beside me.
In this moment I thought everything was okay, I thought Mike had used yesterday to think about what happened between us and he was now okay, but of course, I was wrong.Mike stopped a few rows of seats before mine, sitting down on an empty seat rather than the one next to mine, completely avoiding eye contact with me the entire time. It was like he completely even forgot I had existed. I've ruined everything between us.
***
It's been about a week since Mike and I had spoken now. We quickly slipped back into the routine of not even acknowledging each other's existence, me sitting at the back of the class and spending lunch times alone and him sitting with a guy he had spoken to a few times before, his new friend I guess.
Part of me wanted to keep trying to sort things out between us, to become friends again, but I don't know if there's even any point anymore. He doesn't care, so why should I? Besides, it's not like I should be surprised, I lose every friend I have. I'm always alone, there's no difference now.
