Blair's POV:
"Your honor i would like to call Blair Wilson back to the stand, i have further questions regarding that night she had last seen Margo Watson alive" the lawyer asked, as the judge nodded. I then approached the stand, and took a seat. "What exactly did you do after your involvement of the battery and assault of Margo Watson?" she asked, as i gulped. Which was weird cause i barely had any saliva in my mouth, my throat felt so dry. So i just gulped air. "I um.. i took a short cut home that night. Margo and i don't live that far away from each other. So i usually cut through the woods around her house to get to my place. But when i did that this time around.. Margo's curtains were open. Her curtains to her window. And i saw something.. the back of someone"
"And Margo's legs were wrapped around them." i said, as the lawyer nodded. "Blair, who do you think that would've been?" she asked, as i looked over at Toby. He was nodding at me to admit it was Griffin. I started to fidget with my hands, as i looked over at Griffin. But he was staring at Emelie, who was looking at me. I felt like i was on the spot, "Blair, who was that person?" she asked, as the court room fell silent. I tried to swallow again but it was a reminder that i was in need of water. I took a deep breath, as i closed my eyes, before saying: "Toby Sullivan" making the court go wild, as the judge bangs the gavel.
Griffin chuckles as Toby just gawks at me, "objection your honor, cause for speculation. Just because the defendant claims she saw Toby, doesn't make it Toby Sullivan. It could of been the back of anyone. We can't rely on her as a witness, from what it sounds like she barely even got a good look. This is no witness." the attorney said, as i shuffled in my seat. The court was still arguing and raving, as the judge banged his gavel again. As the audience in the room settles down, Griffin just chuckles as my stomach turns. I hated that i was giving him what he wanted.
The judge himself then turns to me and asks, "are you 100% sure it was Toby Sullivan?" he asked, as i went to open my mouth but the attorney cut me off. "Your honor it doesn't matter if she says yes, there would be no evidence to back it up. The semen, yes could be anyones, but there's no DNA to track. And haven't we already established that my client was the one to have sex with Margo that night. Not Toby." she said, as the judge sighed. The judge then looks over at the jury, "the sexual assault case for Margo Watson has officially been withdrawn due to lack of evidence. Griffin Michealson is also dropped from the murder case of Margo Watson officially, due to lack of evidence as well. Court dismissed." the judge said.
I knew Toby was furious, as i climbed down from the stand and Emelie hugged me. I took her hand, as we chased after Toby who stormed into the hallway. "Toby!" i yelled but he ignored me. He just pins Griffin against the wall, "you're not gonna get away with this!" he yells in his face, as Griffin just grins. His lawyers then come and shove Toby off of him. "You raped her! and that's what made Margo kill herself! she's dead because of you! and you won't even admit it!" Toby yelled, as i winced. That was the first time anyone ever admitted Margo actually committed suicide. It stung. "Aw, you're jealous Sully, and making all of this up because Margo decided to sleep with me instead of you." Griffin said, as Toby went to swing at him.
But Griffin's parents came over, shoving a paper in his hands. I walked over to him and looked over his shoulder to see the paper, it was a restraining order. "You lost dude, and me? i'm untouchable!" Griffin said, as he walked off with his parents. "You did this" Toby said, turning to me. "This was our last shot Blair! and you blew it! Now there's no way Margo's getting justice." Toby yelled, as i was fighting tears. "Toby i'm sorry okay, i just didn't want him to hurt Emelie" i said, as he shook his head. "I don't wanna hear it Blair, i trusted you.. Margo trusted you. Guess you betrayed us both." Toby said, as he left Emelie and me in the hall of the court.
Toby's POV:
I remember the night of the vigil for Margo, the entire school had gathered onto the football field. Everyone held up candles as we looked over Margo's portrait. "Margo Watson was an exceptional student, and a wonderful friend to all of us. It pains me to think how much of a loss her absence will leave on as a school. But we will carry her with us, wherever this life takes us. If anyone of you knew Margo personally, our thoughts and prayers go out to you and her family. Like i said before, the guidance counselor is available whenever she's needed. Let's take the next few minutes to remember Margo's memory in silence." the principal said, as we did so.
But as the silence took over, "TOBY SULLIVAN, BLAIR WILSON, CLEO CASSIDY, EMELIE DYER, AND GRIFFIN MICHEALSON, MURDERS! THEY MURDERED HER!" someone yelled, as everyone started chanting MURDER. And shoving me into a circle, i was being tossed around back and forth and i couldn't fend for myself. I couldn't believe what was happening. A giant brawl then broke out onto the field. As everyone was beating each other up, and i was too busy throwing punches at whoever looked at me funny. The next day, i came to school with a few bruises and some sore knuckles and ribs. I saw Cleo at her locker, as i was furious.
Cleo's POV:
"Cleo.." Toby said, as i saw him approaching me by my locker. I was reapplying my lipstick and checking my hair in my locker mirror. "Why weren't you at the vigil for Margo last night? everyone was suppose to attend" he said, in a low tone but i was unbothered by him at the moment. "I didn't wanna go, and it's not like i needed to be there anyway. Plus, from what i heard there was a brawl or something. And i so don't care.." i said nonchalantly, as i puckered my lips in the mirror. Toby then slammed my locker shut, and forced me against them.
I was terrified of him in the moment, as he looked down into my eyes with a different kind of fury i had never witnessed before. My heart was racing but i didn't want him to know that. "Margo is dead Cleo, dead! and you don't even care?" he asked, as he banged the locker next to me which made me flinch. "You had to of cared, whether you want to believe it or not, you and Margo were friends. Best friends! and you loved her! You just hate to admit that because you knew Margo had feelings for me. But come on Cleo, that can't be the only reason why you were holding a grudge. It couldn't be. And if you didn't actually care, then why are you still wearing the friendship ring she gave you on your birthday?" he asked, as he held my wrist in his hand and i shoved it out of his grasp.
"Yes Cleo, i did kiss Margo but that was it! Margo wouldn't let it go beyond that because she cared more about her friendship with you, than she did for her feelings with me! she couldn't do that to you Cleo! not in general and certainly not on your birthday! she put your feelings before her own that day, and this is how you repay her? it doesn't make any sense. And it's all kinds of fucked up." Toby said, as he glared down at me, before exiting the hallway. I started to hyperventilate. As people had stopped and stared at us.
"Cleo, oh my gosh are you?-" someone from my math class asked, as i darted past them and ran down the hall to the girl's restrooms. I found a stall and bawled. I knew deep down Toby was right. But i can't believe i did what i did to Margo that night, because of a stupid rumor Griffin spread of her, he was just jealous. And i fell for it! i felt so guilty that i was one of the main reasons why Margo probably killed herself that night. If only i had just talked to her, instead of assuming and choosing violence. She would of still been alive.
"Why were you crying Cleo?" the lawyer asked, as i had forgotten i was behind the stand, answering more questions about Margo's death for the past hour now. "Because i had witnessed a new kind of anger in Toby that day, something i hadn't recognized. And it was in that moment, i realized. Toby Sullivan was capable of murder." i said.
