Toby's POV:
After that day in court, i was back behind the clear glass and holding a phone with no dial tone again. With a visitor, only this time it wasn't Cleo, Emelie, or even Blair. It was another woman. I took a seat slowly, eyeing the woman in front of me up and down. And noticing right away she and i had resemblance, in the color of our eyes, the shape of our noses, even in our posture. Which i never assumed could be inherited. I grabbed the telephone, "who are you" i asked, even though i was terrified i already knew the answer. No, it can't be. Not after all these years.
"What do you want?" i asked, after she didn't answer my first question quicker, my eyes then peered at the letter in her hands. "You don't recognize me?" she asked softly, as the tone of her motherly voice sent chills within me. Well how could i? i was only four years old when she left us. Left me. "Mom?" i asked, as she smiled. "Surprise" she said, without any enthusiasm which i appreciated. I was feeling so many emotions flood through me tremendously, but i tried my best to keep a straight face. I didn't want her to know the affect she had on me.
"What are you doing here, after all these years?" i asked, as she looked down at the letter in her hands. "I received a letter from your friend Margo a little while ago, she had reached out to me before she passed." she said, as my heart ached once i saw Margo's handwriting on the front of the letter. I had so many questions, how did she find my mother's address? why didn't she tell me? what could she have written? I didn't know whether to be angry or impressed. But i was greatly astonished, "i don't know how she found me, but Margo seemed like she was an amazing girl." she said, as i half smiled thinking about Margo. "She was.." i whispered.
"I am so sorry for your loss Toby, but this letter.. i think you should read it. That's the only reason why i came. I also wanted to tell you, not for one second did i ever believe the allegations towards you killing Margo. I don't believe you're capable of murder. I can already see how much Margo impacted your life." she said, as i didn't say a word. All of this was just a lot right now. "When i left you, it wasn't about you, it was about your father. I wanted to come back and take you with me but i figured you were better off without me. i don't expect any forgiveness from you. Lord knows, i don't deserve it. I just wanted you to know the truth, cause above anything else, i felt like i owed that to you." she said, as she passed me the letter.
The minute she got up to leave, "wait.. mom" i said, as the word started to feel weird coming out of my mouth, which was vacant of that word for years. She paused, and turned to face me. "I forgive you" i said, as she looked at me, lips parted and eyes wide. She was stunned. "Really?" she asked, as i smiled. "I understand why you left, why you did what you did. And i can't hate you, even if i wanted too. You're still my mom. And above anything else, i'm lucky to have you. Despite you leaving, i still found a way to love you." i said, as she smiled, tears in her eyes.
"You know what they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder" i said, as she looked relieved. "Now go, before i change my mind" i said, as she laughed to herself, and dabbed her eyes with her sleeves. As i watched her leave, i grabbed the letter and walked back to my holding cell.
Margo's POV:
"i would like to call Debra Watson to the stand, Margo's mother" the lawyer said, as i watched my mother walk up to the stand and swear an oath to tell the truth. My heart broke to see how my mother could barely to keep it together on the stand. "When my husband and i came home from our trip, it was early in the morning. Usually, when i get off our trips, i check on Margo, just to see if she's sleeping. Liam was unloading our bags in the other room, as i walked down the hall to Margo's room. I noticed.. Margo's bathroom shower was running. So, i knocked, thinking maybe she was up early. But when i entered her room, her bed seemed to be slept in, so then i turned to her bathroom.. sorry." my mother said, as she cried, trying to stop herself.
