They adopted me. A 13 year old girl. I wonder what made them do that.
"Well! Welcome home!" Isabelle yelled at me before squishing the air out of my chest. I still don't understand why that's so popular with humans.
"It sure looks nice." I said. I was being completely honest here. They were probably the richest people in the area.
Next thing I knew, I had a bunch of human children running up and saying "welcome home!" "Nice to meet you!" And such. Ok, a bunch is too many.
"This is Lizzy and Tomas." Isabelle said. Mental note: humans have weird names. Or maybe my name is weird. Whatever.
"I'm Annika." I told the children.
"I'll show you to your new room, Annika." Tomas said. His voice is deep, soothing. I look up at him and see those glowing green eyes and dark brown hair cropped short, but still long enough to be blown by the breeze.
"Alright." I say, masking what I think of him. I highly doubt he thinks like I do.
"Are you who I think you are?" His voice echoes in my mind.
"who do you think I am?" I ask in the same fashion as we walk up the stairs.
"Queen Annika of the last outpost." He replies.
How could he possibly...
"How do you know my full title?" I ask.
"So many questions in that head of yours! It's always been like that, though. Do you really not recognize me?" He asks.
"No." I reply "even if I do know you, you look like a human!"
"Oh, yeah..."
He pulls me through a doorway as closes the door.
"This" he says, waving his arm around to show the room off, "is your room"
I look around and see an extremely beautiful room. The place looks like a mansion in itself!
"Wow." Is all I can say.
He laughs at me. "I would think YOU would be used to this kind of thing!"
"I live in a cave." I say.
He just looks down. "oh... I'm sorry... I just thought-"
"It's fine." I say, cutting him off.
"Well, would you like to see the rest of the house?" He asks.
"Sure!" I say, mostly just to get rid of that frown on his face. He looks better smiling.
"What?" He asked.
"Did I just say that out loud?"
"Yes."
"Oh..."
"It's ok. Issy should have dinner ready soon."
"Ok."
We walked down the stairs and sat at the table, having our own private conversation through a mental link he's not supposed to have.
