At the end of the ceremony, we all filed out in a line. I passed my parents, my mum beamed at me, as did my dad - but he didn't care about me, just about his reputation. I smiled at mum, then turned away.
We walked outside the building, just as a train was pulling past, all the Dauntless born sprinted for the fast moving train, I did a cart wheel and I heard everyone whooping and cheering. To my side I saw Adrian, a dauntless friend, do leap frog over his friend Zack, as Adrian jumped off Zack did a front flip and landed on his feet, running towards the train. I always thought he was really good looking, and fit, ----((he looks like Zac Efron))---- Ella nudged me laughed, she'd seen me staring, I have her a gentle shove and sprinted to the train, I gracefully leaped on and landed smoothly on the train next to Zack.
Our hands touched and I looked at him, he smiled.
"Come on, let's watch the transfers!" I heard Adrian shout. We all got up and look out of the open doors. The transfers were gingerly running up to the train, not wanting to miss it and ending up factionless. Some were braver, and just jumped without thinking about it, they stumbled and fell into the walls or into people, others were more careful and tried to just step onto it, which usually ended up into them being hauled into the train. One boy- probably Erudite- refused to jump, so he got left behind.
As the train sped off into the city, I sat back down and I looked around me, this is where everything changes, no more careless joking around at school, this was serious, if I didn't perform as expected I would end up factionless, but I wasn't worried about that, I knew I would do well. But even so, this was the beginning of the rest of my life. And it was big.
