Hack and Slash (S2: Ep6)

The day of the show match finally came, meaning MD-5 was ready to rock.

With everything set in place, All the others had to do was wait for Tari to give the signal so they could continue the plan.

For now though, Meggy was incognito with Masa wearing a tarp over himself, while Meggy wore her normal cloak.

Meggy glared at the screen. Tari and Evelyn were down their, being made to play this game. While Evelyn was making a speech that almost made her fall asleep, she looked back at Masa as he checked in with the comns.

Masa: It's almost go time. Team, what's your status?

Sophia: All good Red Falcon, this is yellow cannery reporting in! With Junior Superstar on standby.

Crystal babbled over the feed, being watched by Sophia until this was over.

Lamar: Hey, wait...Masa, I thought you said we weren't doing code names! I wanna be green peacock!

Meggy: Yeah, Orange Mama-bird doesn't sound half bad.

Masa: No, we're not doing code names! I need everyone to focus!

Meggy glared at him.

Masa: Lamar, are you in position?

Lamar: Yeah yeah, I managed to swipe a spare TASCORP suit. Ugh! Wish it hadn't been from the laundry though, yeesh!

Masa: And Sophia?

Sophia: Yep! I'm into the stadium's network already! The horizon group makes great arenas...hehe, not so great security. I could've given Crystal a computer and she could've cracked the code within an hour.

Meggy: Good, Me and Masa are on standby and ready to go at Tari's signal. So you might wanna send Her ours first.

Sophia: Roger roger!

While Sophia did her part, Meggy looked at the screen as Evelyn was wrapping up her incredibly long speech.

Meggy: God, I hated her when I was at TASCORP...she always just walked around like she owned the place.

Masa: Being rich does that to you unfortunately.

Eventually, Lucks handed Tari the microphone as she moved forward.

Tari: Ahem, thank you Lucks and to all of you, my friends, for being here today! All I can tell you is...I'm ready for this!

Meggy grinned as Tari moved back and near the podium.

Masa: Okay, she's got the signal. Phase 2, go.

Once Lamar got his command, Meggy looked back at the screen as one of the podiums started smoking. Tari played her part, acting startled and falling back as she disconnected the wire. The room they were in suddenly went Dark as some people started to panic.

Meggy: Heh, one wire keeps half the lights working? Maybe this stadium isn't so great.

Masa: Agreed. Cmon, we've got to get to our next position.

The two made their way to the hallway where they were set to wait for Lamar. The lights turned back on during that period about a minute before Lamar walked in with shades and a cap.

A nearby robot floated by in search mode.

Robot: Now, where'd that bozo run off too?

Lamar laughed and checked his comn.

Sophia: How'd it go guys?

Lamar: It's all good Sophia, cartridge is in place and good to go.

Sophia: Good job Lamar. Now so long as the cartridge is running, it'll backup the download onto my phone with Belle into itself. Then when it's done, all we have to do is take the cartridge and walked away with the server under Lucks's big dumb nose!

Masa: Then theirs no turning back now. Let's get into position...

The three of them moved to the gaming chair area, ready to infiltrate the game as enemies. Once Lucks was finished with his speech, Meggy was assigned her character as she began to log in.

Sophia: Okay everyone, this is it. Once the game boots up, my program will use it a back door through the TASCORP firewall, downloading it all from my phone. The program will take 20 minutes to download everything though, so you guys have to do whatever you can to stretch the game out.

Masa: Affirmative. You got that Lamar?

Lamar: Play keep away with our teams, stall Evelyn, protect Tari. Yeah, I paid attention during your briefing man.

Masa: Meggy?

Meggy: Ready to roll.

The games started as Meggy loaded up her Meta arm, pushing her skills to their best as she entered her game.

Meggy: Let's do this.

...

She was assigned her role as a bow shooter, pleasing her with the fact she was at an advantage with her shooting skills.

She made her way through the game until she came across Tari about to be shot by an arrow. She moved fast, putting one in the head of the other player. Her character gave Meggy and heart gesture before running off.

Her game chat however wasn't so happy.

Voice that sounds suspiciously like Smg3: Hey! What stupid player is killing all our teammates?!

Meggy (Shy voice): Oh, S-sorry! I missed my shot!

Meggy grinned, going to her Comns.

Meggy: Masa, I'm keeping Tari safe. Where are you and Lamar?

Lamar: I'm with you girl, look behind you!

Meggy looked back at her game, seeing another archer waving at her.

Meggy: Nice. Masa, where are you?

Masa: I spawned with a squad on the other side of the map. Doing my best to slow them down but we're probably going to close in on you guys soon.

From afar in her game, Meggy saw a plume of smoke as 5 players were listed as "Death by friendly fire". More then likely Masa.

Meggy: How's Tari doing?

Lamar: She's handling herself, but we have bigger problems!

Meggy and Lamar took out two more players in the game.

Lamar: Yeah, that problem is a pink girl named Evelyn. I don't know what children shows she grew up on, but she has clearly never learned the values of teamwork and friendship.

Masa: Get ready. If Tari doesn't have Evelyn backing her up, then the job falls to us.

Lamar: Understood.

Meggy: Got it Masa. Don't worry, she's not leaving my sight again.

Meggy jumped around the map, trying to find Tari after suddenly losing her in the game. Her panic increased with each second.

When she finally found her, she saw Tari get blasted down to the ground by a ball of Lava and get surrounded by soldiers with spears.

She readied her bow in the game and prepared to take aim.

Meggy: Hang on Tari...I'm getting you outta here.
