Chapter 2

I woke up the next morning feeling completely sore all over. My arms ached where the ninjas had a hold of me. My head was pounding, and knees were aching from being shoved down onto them. The worst of it all was my lower right abdomen where I was stabbed. I turned my head to the right to see Leonardo asleep in the chair, arms crossed over his chest, legs slightly bent, his head down, chest rising and falling slowly.

He looked so peaceful, but I also imagined that he was a little uncomfortable sleeping in that chair. I looked a little more to my right and saw there was a glass water and some crackers on a plate sitting on top of a little table next to the bed. I couldn't help but let a small smile show thinking how Leonardo must have gotten that together last night after I fell back asleep. I tried to shift up a little bit, but I let out a soft wince when I felt the pain again which seemed to instantly wake him up.

“Skylar?” he said softly, looking in my direction.

“I’m sorry, I was trying not to wake you, but it hurts just to move a little bit…” I explained as I placed my hand over the spot of my wound.

“Maybe Donnie can give you some more pain meds. I’ll go get him.” He said standing up.

He quickly walked out the door to the lab that led out to the rest of… wherever I am. All I know is it was not the door to Donnie’s room. He was gone for only a minute before he walked back in with Donnie right behind him.

“Good morning Skylar. Despite everything I hope you slept well.” Donnie said with a smile as he walked in.

I watched him walk over to a locked cabinet and watched as he unlocked it with a code and pulled out some medicine bottles.

“Y-yeah I think I did…” I said softly, fiddling with my fingers.

“Leo here told me you woke up with a lot of pain. I have something here that should help with that.” He said as he popped open a bottle and shook out a couple of small brownish red pills.

Donnie walked over to me and handed me the pills gently. He grabbed the glass of water on the table for me so I didn’t have to reach and move to get it. I examined the little pills for a second just because I was cautious about taking things from others. It wasn’t long before I took a swig of water in my mouth, tilted my head back and dropped the pills in my mouth, swallowing them down easily.

“Those should last for the rest of the day, but you can take more before going to bed if you feel like you need to.” Donnie explained keeping the bottle out on the table next to the plate of crackers.

“You should try to eat something. I brought in some crackers to start off, but if you feel like something else just let us know.” Leonardo explained motioning to the crackers.

I nodded and sat the glass of water down, grabbed a cracker and brought it back to me, nibbling on it slowly.

“I should check out that wound of yours. It needs some new bandages and maybe another cleaning.” Donnie explained as he gathered a couple of things.

I watched as he grabbed some gause, new bandage wrap, some cleaning solution and cotton balls. He gathered it onto a rolling table and he grabbed a pair of gloves from a box on his desk. They were custom non-latex gloves that fit his three fingered hands perfectly. I wonder where he got them from? He pulled a chair to the bed as well as the rolling table and he pulled the blanket back down just enough to reveal where the wound was.

I was shocked to see how gentle these guys were being. They all looked like they could break brick walls, but when it came to me and everything I saw, they were kind and gentle. I watched as Donnie peeled back the old bandage. The fresh cold air hit my wound and it made me hiss slightly as it stung. Donnie’s jaw clenched from the sound I made and I heard Leo rub his arm. They were just as worried and uneasy with me being in pain as I was.
