Chapter 4

It had been a couple of days since the turtles moved my stuff from my apartment to the lair. It was the same day Leo and I almost shared a kiss before Splinter needed to talk to him. Since that day, Leo has been acting differently. He doesn't look at my direction much anymore unless I'm talking, he and I haven't talked much one on one since that night, and he has been staying distant. I don't know what Splinter told him, but I hope everything is still okay between us.

Today I decided to try and read more of my mom's journal. It was full of different entries, some being stories she had heard growing up, some more like diary entries for the day, and other parts had what seemed to be a bit of our family's history. I didn’t know much about my family's history except that our tree dates back to ancient Japan. While the guys were in a multi hour training day today, I decided that I would chill on the couch in the living room and read through the journal.

I sat down, crossing my legs on the couch and leaned back as I held the journal up to my face and started reading. There was an entry about the time my parents met for the first time. They went to the same university where my dad was getting a business degree and my mom was getting a liberal arts degree. They happened to bump into each other in a hallway and dropped their stuff. Classic movie love story beginning if I do say so, but still sweet.

I heard a lot of commotion coming from the dojo and I turned my head to look that way. Like as if I could see anything with the doors shut, and I couldn't make out what was being said but it didn't sound good. I shook my head trying to ignore it and continued reading this new section. It was actually a story about the time Shredder tried to rule over this city in Japan. However it doesn't add up to the Shredder that attacked me and killed my parents. The date in the story was 1807, so this couldn't possibly be the same Shredder from then right? It then talked about a man named Takeo Shiro. Why was his name mentioned? The story raised questions more than it answered. I continued to read the story when I nearly had a heart attack from the dojo doors sliding open.

I turned around to see Raph storming out of the dojo, mumbling stuff under his breath as he took off to his room and slammed the door shut. I looked back over at the dojo to see Leo tensed, hands in fists, glaring as he watched his brother storm off. Donnie and Mikey soon walked out passing Leo as he crossed his arms and looked down. He looked like he was trying to figure out what went wrong. I wanted to know what happened, but since Leo has been avoiding me I decided not to ask.

Splinter walked up to Leo who was still standing in the doorway and talked to him for a bit. He could see I was watching them and he looked over and bowed his head in my direction. It made Leo turn to see who he was doing that to and it was the first time in a couple of days that he really looked at me. I waved a little from the couch and smiled, but it was just met with a tense turtle who turned back around to Splinter. I felt an ache in my chest as I slunk back into the couch and looked down. Did I do something wrong? I then heard Leo walking away and headed upstairs. I wanted answers.

I grabbed the journal in hand, got off the couch quickly and I quickly went after him. I called his name, but he continued to walk and ignore me. He started going into his room when I came up behind him. He tried to shut the door quickly but I managed to put my hand out and stop the door from shutting all the way. He stood behind the door not looking at me, his face just filled with confusion, anger, and a bit of sadness behind his eyes. I pushed into the room and stood in the middle of it looking at him. He slowly closed the door and he just stood there.

"Leo.. what is going on? Why have you been ignoring me and avoiding me?" I asked setting the journal on top of his dresser and then crossed my arms.

"Sky… please… I'm sorry. It's nothing that you have done. It's just.." He said and sighed softly as he started to pace his room. "Splinter brought up something to me.. he thinks I'm getting distracted by you.. and he's right." He said, rubbing the back of his neck nervously, his face scrunched up as he thought about his words carefully.
