Chapter 4 ~ Back in the maze

“Cassie.”

“Cassie.”

“Cassie!” I awake with a start, looking around in confusion. Where am I?

“Cassie, Scott wanted you in the med hut half an hour ago.” I look at the figure in confusion before my eyes widen in shock.

“Will?” I question, tears forming in my eyes. 

“Cassie, why are you acting so weird?” Will asks me with an amused smile. 

“Bu…but you’re…what am I doing here?” I manage to stutter out as I look around at the sticks tied together with rope to form the walls of the bunk hut. Will tilts his head slightly as his smile fades.

“Are you alright Cassie? Do you want to stay in bed today?” Will questions as he tries to put a hand on my forehead but I brush him off. 

“Yeah, I’m fine…” I mumble. Will smiles brightly, his bright blue eyes sparkling.

“Great, I’ll walk you over to the med hut,” he says happily before walking out of the bunk hut. I follow close behind him, stepping out of the hut and into the bright light of the sunny meadow. 

What on earth is going on?!

I follow behind Will as we walk over to the med hut. Stepping inside, we’re greeted by Scott’s usual disapproving frown. 

“It’s nearly noon, Cassie! You were supposed to be helping out here hours ago,” Scott scolds me as Will leaves to go work in the gardens. 

“Uh…” I trail off, not sure what to say. What am I doing back here? And why is everything so…normal again?

“Miles was stung this morning while out running in an unlisted section. I did my best to patch him up but I’m sure he’d appreciate some company,” Scott tells me as he leads me over to where Miles is lying on one of the beds. I remember this…this happened only a few months after I arrived. But everything feels foggy for some reason, like there is a veil covering my mind. 

I sit down at the bedside next to where Miles is lying, his skin pale and feverish. I automatically grab a wet cloth from a bowl of water and start to cool his forehead. 

Suddenly, Miles’s eyes snap open and he sits up straight, eyes wide and scared. I jump back slightly, startled by his sudden movements. His eyes meet mine and he pulls something out of his belt; one of his hunting knives. 

“Miles, are you okay?” I question, my head pounding with an irritating buzz. 

“They put us here…they took us,” Miles mumbles feverishly as his eyes flicker back and forth across the room. 

“Miles, calm down,” I reach out a hand towards him, trying to calm him down but he grabs my wrist instead. 

“We can’t leave. It’s not safe,” his tone rises as he grips my wrist tightly. I try to pull back but he’s too strong.

“Miles, let go,” I tell him with a quivering voice. I don’t think he hears me, though, as he starts to mumble to himself again. 

“Miles,” I say louder, startling him out of his thoughts. He yelps as if he is in pain and slashes out his knife; right across my face.

I shout out in pain and fall backwards from him, holding a hand up against my face which is now bleeding profusely. 

“Cassie, are you okay?” People start to crowd into the room, some restraining Miles and others kneeling down besides me. My face starts to burn painfully and my head starts to pound worse than before. 

A fuzzy feeling fills my head accompanied by black splotches clouding my vision. 

“Cassie…” The voices start to muffle as my vision blurs and spins. The sound of my rapid heartbeat fills my ears, growing faster and faster. The voices continue to question me, along with the feeling of someone shaking my shoulders. 

I feel my body go limp as my vision blurs out completely, before everything fades into blackness.

I know, I know...I purposely used Theo's actor from Teen Wolf as Will but if you havebt picked up on it by now, I'm kinda obsessed with Teen Wolf...
I also haven't been using many gifs of Shelley (the face claimed actress for Cassie) but that's because I can't find any gifs of her anywhere.
Other than that, super short filler chapter. Don't worry, the next one is longer.
