------------
The girl slides open a large metal door, revealing the large warehouse within. It's been converted into a place where people can live. Lights hang from the ceiling and balustrades of the stairs and tents are scattered around the room.
"Oh, my..." Frypan mutters as we all take in the place. A few people mill about and I spot two men engaged in a game of chess.
"Come on, keep up," the girl calls back to us from up ahead, "Jorge wants to meet you." Jorge?
We hurry to keep up with her as she leads us up a set of metal stairs that look ready to collapse at any moment.
"Who's Jorge?" Thomas questions her as we catch up to her. She turns around to look at us briefly, a smirk crossing her lips.
"You'll see." I frown slightly at her words. I'm starting to trust these people less and less.
"No one has come out of the scorch in a long time. You've just got him curious," she continues to talk as we walk. She pauses for a moment before giving a small shrug.
"And me too."
We all share collective looks of worry as people start to trail behind us in a threatening manner. Minho grabs my hand as more people advance on us.
"Anyone else starting to get a bad feeling about this place?" Newt speaks up as he eyes the people following us. We turn another corner and Thomas looks back at us briefly.
"Let's just hear him out. See what he has to say," Thomas says although the underlying worry in his voice manages to seep through slightly. I swallow hard; what have we gotten ourselves into?
------------
The girl leads us up another flight of stairs that are narrow enough that we have to go single file. Thomas goes first and Minho follows up last, right behind me.
We enter a large room that looks like some sort of study. The girl walks up to a large desk where a figure is sitting, staring out of a large window. I wonder if he saw us coming through the window?
"Jorge, they're here," the girl tells him before he holds up a hand to quiet her. She sits down on a dusty couch in the corner with a huff as the rest of us stand, facing Jorge's back as he sits in his chair and fumbles with a machine.
The people that were following us come up behind us, standing too close for comfort. We all eye them with careful eyes, prepared to bolt at a moment's notice.
"Do you ever get the feeling the whole world's against you?" Jorge questions as he stands up from his chair and turns around to face us. I furrow my eyebrows in confusion at that as Thomas and Minho share a look crossed with exasperation and worry.
"Three questions," Jorge speaks up again as he walks towards us, "Where did you come from? Where are you going? And how can I profit?" His last words come out with a menacing tone as he carefully inspects us.
