My phone beeps and my notification ringtone goes off, "DING!"

I grab my phone from the side table just as I am wrapping up my math homework.

KALEB: hey hru :)

ME: Hey! Not much, n u?

KALEB: Doing fine myself. Sry if I am disturbing you...I am at work and super bored.

ME: No ur good, lols. I just finished my hw so just in time ig.

KALEB: Oh, okay great to hear. How was your day?

ME: It was good, yo, n u?

KALEB: Why do I feel like this conversation is going through the water cycle or smthn?

ME: Haha. good sense of humor, I see.

KALEB: You betcha, I'm the whole package :0

ME: Ouuuu ;)

KALEB: So ur a freshman, right?

ME: Yes sir.

KALEB: Wow, living the dream now I see.

ME: I mean, yeah, it's pretty easy and alright but sophomore year shouldn't be so bad, right?

KALEB: It's alr, IG ><.

ME: Yeah, I hope it's like that for me, too.

KALEB: If you're taking the "smart ppl" classes, it might not be, but the advanced classes should look good for college, though.

ME: Boy, you might be smart as well, just lazy to do the work for it. Yeah, it should.

KALEB: I like ur sense of thinking.

And I like you, I think to myself.

ME: Thanks, so lmao my mom is calling me for dinner. GTG!

KALEB: Alr, good talking to you.

I close my phone and walk downstairs to the smell of arroz y frijoles (rice & beans), my mom's iconic dinner. Wow, I totally missed this dish, like I don't eat it every week.

"Mom, I am not really hungry, I ate at school," I tell my mom as I grab a bottle of water from the refrigerator.

"I don't care, come and eat. Otherwise, you know me, Sun...." she says with a sternness to her voice.

"Ugh, fine." Yeah. I know you. You're going to start feeding me like I am a child, of course.

Dad walks in the dining room and takes a seat. "How selfish of you, Sun!"

"Yeah, what'd I do now? It's like all you guys do is complain about me," I say with a clear annoyance to my voice.

"Where are your sisters? Did you not call them? And I don't like the attitude in your voice, hon," Dad responds.

"Oh yeah, my bad, sorry," I walk out of the kitchen and to the stairs, where I use my "loudspeaker" voice as my teachers call it. "AFI, ARI, FEI, get yourselves down for dinner immediately!!!"

"COMING!" I hear them yell back almost in unison. With a smile, I walk back into the dining room.

"How are your studies, darling?" Mom asks.

"Good, Mom, I am acing it this year for real," I reply.

"That's good, don't fool around with anyone, okay? I heard a lot of people were cutting class, better not be you."
