I wanted to illustrate how there are no victors in war, there is only loss. I constructed The Knave's Crusade to show the dynamics of said loss, how it slowly breaks down the individuals.
In the darkness there is always light. I could not forget about potential, the spark of hope for a better future. I wanted to emulate that with Pascal's and Tels' relationship because after they lost so much they found each other. They found hope and built a life together. I think there is beauty in that alone.
Kulan Jal is a masterpiece in his own right. His character arch displays how he began as an innocent child that was driven to violence by war. He did everything for his brother as did Tels did everything for her family. It was their loved ones that drove them apart and they both lost something. As Kulan lost Tels, he gained the stormtroopers. I wanted to have this fanfic reflect the set up of SWTCW. The show began off about Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka but later on Ahsoka and Rex became the main focal point. I wanted this story to be about how Kulan's journey becomes intertwined with Bankole's stormtroopers.
