I walked into AP Lang immediately looking for Leilani since she wasn't by her locker. My smile falters when I don't see her anywhere in the class.

Me:
Are you coming to school?
8:38 am

I find an empty seat and sit down staring at my phone waiting for an answer.

Maybe she didn't come because of the altercation with that girl in the hallway. Either way, I need Leilani to text me back, I need to know where she is.

Lani♡:
no.
8:43am

I see my phone light up and reply hastily, maybe a little too fast.

Me:
Why not?
8:43am

I look at my phone to see that she left me on read. Why does she have to make my job so goddamn difficult? I send another quick text and put my phone up before the teacher starts taking attendance.

"Hey new boy," I look up from my locker to see the bitch that was being rude to Leilani.

"Is there something I can do for you, Monica?" I slam my locker shut causing her to jump a little. She looks at me as if I just spoke a different language.

"It's Mikayla," she says, still forcing a smile.

"Right Madison" I bite my lip to keep myself from chuckling. I watch her mood change from interested to annoyed. I've never been more amused and irritated at the same time.

"Anyway," she rolls her eyes choosing to ignore how I purposely said her name wrong. "I see your little friend Leilani isn't here." It infuriates me to even hear Leilani's name come out of her mouth.

"What's your point, Maria?" My jaw clenches, I no longer want to be a part of this conversation or anywhere near her.

"You should eat lunch with me and my friends! I know you probably don't have any other friends to sit with since you're new and nobody likes to sit alone."

"I like to sit alone," I say and walk away. I don't know why she even bothered asking me to sit with her, it's pretty obvious I'm on Leilani's side. Not like I have much of a choice about that though.

I walk to lunch with only a book in hand, I've never been much of a lunch person. Breakfast and dinner are all I need to get me through the day.

I walk into the very rowdy cafeteria and sit at an empty table. A bit depressing if you think about it, the new kid sitting all alone. I push the thought out of my mind and take out my book 'The Upside of Falling'. It happens to be one of my favorite romance books. This is also why I'm rereading it for the fifth time.
