"I'm not your mum, your mum passed away when giving birth to you." She said looking at me as if asking for permission to continue. I nodded in affirmation.

"Your father was married to a Nigerian woman even before he met your mum and she was the one that gave birth to Mide. She died when Mide was a year old and your father could not forgive himself he started undergoing therapy and that was how he met your mum."

"Your mum was his therapist. They started flowing together and soon they became quite close and he decided to marry her. She was was also Nigerian. That was when they had you and again his second wife died. Your dad wasn't himself, so I had to do most of the taking care of and that made it look like I was your mother."

"The day you called me mummy " she sniffed.

"I wanted to correct you to call me aunty but I couldn't bring myself to do it. So I just let you."

"After sometime, your dad started being aggressive towards you, because he felt you were the reason his wife died. I couldn't keep on watching so I had to take a hard decision."

"I took the decision to take you and leave Mide, I had in mind to take you two but I had to take only one person and that was you"

"So who were you to my dad?" I asked after listening for a while.

"I'm your dad's adopted sister, his parents adopted me when I was 6 and they've been my family."

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, for the first few years here you questioned me a lot but with time you just grew to it." She said and cupped my face with her hands.

"What was her name? My mum"

"Her name was Oluwatobiloba, trust me she was as stubborn as you." She chuckled a bit.

"You'll always be my Mum though" I said with tears streaming from my eyes

"You'll always be my child" she pecked my forehead.

Yup, she's my mum.

*********
I was scrolling through TikTok when someone knocked on my room door. I shouted a come in and the last person I expected to see strolled in.

Chizaram Azubike

"Hey" she greeted with a small smile.

"Since when did you start knocking" I asked feigning a confused expression.
She laughed a bit and came closer and sat on my bed.

"I missed you" I stretched my hands to hug her and she returned it.

"Leya... I'm.."

"Zara." I said cutting her off from whatever I wanted to say.

"You are my best friend Zara, when others saw me as wierd. You saw me as normal. You're my sister from another mother. Zara, I would never go behind your back. I didn't tell your parents about the drugs. Believe me, I didn't, I don't even have your dad's number. I didn't." Tears were already streaming down our face.

"I know who did it, it was Halima. You know she knew about it then. So I'm actually going to be undergoing therapy. I'm sorry for not trusting you. I'm sorry." She said and hugged me.

"It's fine. Do we still have a Halima problem?" I asked

"Actually she has been sent back to Kano, where she's married to an Alhaji. He came to Lagos looking for his last wife. So she's gone, but we really need to pacify her. If we don't, the next time she'll come. Our life's might just turn upside down" I nodded in agreement with her.

"I love you sis" I said hugging her again.

"I love you my fish"

We both giggled.
"If Walter is your brother now, can I have him?"

"Ok seriously girl? You wanted him all along?" I said laughing.

"Someone cannot play with you? Hope there's food in the kitchen?" Zara asked as a foodie she is. We stood up to go to the kitchen.
