I found it hard to move. I stared at his features, unable to look away. I was scared that when I did, I will never have to see those eyes again. He stared at me intensely, like a hungry lion, about to catch its prey.
"Tobias?" I whispered, the hard expression planted on his face softened upon hearing my voice.
He raised a brow, utter confusion spread across his face. Opening his mouth to speak, a distant yell interrupts.
I turn around, seeing a fazed-looking Olan before me. I glance once again to the man's direction before joining the crowd.
Once everyone's all set, Tobias walked towards us with arms folded. "Alright. It seems like everyone's done with their first trial, except for those three though." He motioned his head towards the hole above us. I clench my jaw at the sight of the poor Amity girl's arm sticking out.
"What's going to happen to them?" A girl in black and white clothing asks. He sends her a cold side eye and it seemed like she didn't bother having no answer anymore.
"The name's Four. I work at the Control Room, but for the next few weeks I will be your instructor." He said, his voice echoing against the black walls of the dark room.
"This is Joanna. She will be the instructor for the Dauntless-Borns." He continued. I looked over at a woman beside Four, who impatiently tucked the strands of hair that were blocking her face as the rest of her thin hair sat on her shoulders.
Her eyes traveled the whole crowd. She grins as our gazes meet, winking at me before and walked out of a room; leaving me at a confused state. I raised a brow, What's up with her?
Four gave us a quick tour of the pit and the chasm, then showing us our dorm afterwards.
"This is where you will sleep." He said, stopping at an open area.
After a moment of silence, a girl from Abnegation interrupts, "Where's the girl's room?"
Four gave her a low chuckle. I watch as shuffled her feet awkwardly, I bite my lip.
"Your Abnegation is showing, stiff." Mutters a Candor boy ironically, making me unconsciously roll my eyes and scoff. Stiff, is a slang given for Abnegation. I hated it just like my burning hatred towards my father.
"You all will be staying in this room." Four said smoothly as he walked farther in the room, we followed.
He stopped by a dirty bathtub. He leaned on it with the palm of his hand, "This is your bathroom. I suggest you should take an early shower then get plenty of rest. First training starts tomorrow." With that, he went out of the room; leaving us standing in silence. I look back at the bathtubs as I scrunched up my nose in disgust. Clearly, privacy wasn't a problem in Dauntless.
Before I get ready, I jogged my way out of the dorm as I try to find Four; who, in moments later, wasn't that much far away. Hesitantly, I grabbed his wrist, he snapped his head to my direction; taken aback by the sudden action. I breathe, "Four-"
"Mel? Sorry, I've got things to do." He says, I give him a blank stare. What am I going to do now?
As if he read my mind, he continues, "Meet me at my room after dinner." He said and left hurriedly before I could say anything else.
His place? Today's my first day! How on earth am I supposed to know where it is?
I bit the insides of my cheek as I shrug the thoughts away, I could deal with it later for I have things to be dealt with right now.
As I changed into my new clothes, I couldn't help but feel so overwhelmed. Too overwhelmed that I didn't even know whether it was good or not anymore.
What if all of this may be a mistake? Of course it was. I was too late to make my way over the Erudite bowl. But what if this was all in the idea of fate?
"Why so serious, love?" Olan interrupts my thoughts before it could get out of hand. I turn to his direction with a raised brow.
"Calling nicknames now, are we?"
He smirked, "what're friends for."
I stare at him, a look of amusement plastered on my face. Odd, friends don't call each other nicknames like those.
After a moment of silence he clears his throat,"Okay then, you ready? We're going to the pit, we've got Lunch." I stood up and smiled at him. I follow him out of the dorm.
We made our way to the pit in utter silence.
With a tray on both hands, Olan asks, "Where shall we sit?" We stood stood awkwardly in silence; realizing that we don't recognize a single face in the room.
I glanced around the tables filled with dark-clothed people. I see a familiar face as I notice Joanna in the distance, who was busily eating a burger.
I pointed at her direction, "There." Before he could say anything else, I started walking towards her table hurriedly before anyone else takes the half-empty bench across her.
As I came closer to the table I notice Four and two other people (who I assume are also new) are seated with Joanna. "Hey," I greet her.
Joanna looks up, "oh hey!" She greets enthusiastically.
"I-uh, do you mind if we...?" I ask awkwardly. Motioning to the empty seats across from her.
She shook her head and smiled, "no, go ahead." I return the smile while Olan thanked her. I briefly catch glances with Four as Olan and I sit beside each other.
I began eating the burger on my tray. Realizing how little I ate today, I hurriedly gobble up my meal.
"Well someone's definitely not hungry," they say sarcastically.
I look to the person beside me and stare at the girl who was looking down at me, smirking. "Hello to you, too." She chuckled.
"Christine." She says and pulls out a hand. I firmly shake it. "Mel."
She returns to the redheaded boy across from her. "Well, this is Eddie." He nods to Olan and I as I beamed him a smile.
The boy beside me introduced himself , "I'm Olan." The duo before us smiled once again. Maybe there's a little Amity in people.
