I woke up to the sound of the fire crackling in the fireplace as the loud rainfall outside continues on.
"Hey," I hear a child's voice say. I look the the caller's direction, and in not more than a meter away stands a boy with dirty blonde hair dressed in blue, with enticing gray eyes beaming at me.
I looked around the room, noticing that I'm in the Erudite compound. A huge wave of relief hits me as I realized, I'm free.
I give him a faint smile as he returns it. I sat up on a white sofa, as he gives me a mug filled with what I assume is hot cocoa. "Thanks." I say, careful not to spill any of the dark liquid on the sofa.
I watch every movement he makes. He fixed the room's contents in order to make me feel at home. After putting the books back in its shelves, he set up a candle which made me smile at the smell of coffee and strawberries.
"What's your name?" He asks. He sits down on the sofa across from me as he clasped his hands together, his elbows on his thighs.
"Melanie."
"Well, nice to meet you Melanie."
"What about you?"
"What?"
"What's your name?"The look on his face faltered for a moment as I watch him in deep thought. He didn't seem like he would be answering my question any day now.
"What?" I say. "I give you my name and you don't? Well that's unfair." He chuckled.
Then suddenly my head starts to feel dizzy, and my eyes starts to close.
"Mel? Mel, Mel! Melanie, wake up!"
Suddenly I woke up again, this time I wake up to the sight of Christine. I rubbed the tieedness out of my eyes as I remembered about Uriah.
It was the next day.
The wound on my cheek has dried up fast, leaving a small mark that would last for probably a week or so.
I jolt up to the noise of Olan and Eddie's shuffling, the two were making enormous steps as they silently approached the nearest tub to Uriah's bed.
Ridiculously failing, I try my best not to giggle. In my luck, everyone still seemed to be in deep sleep. I squint as I see the two carefully fill the tub.
As the tub was being filled up, Eddie gave Christine and I each a bucket filled with water as we waited.
Bang. I start to hear our morning call.
Christine and I shared a look, signaling each other to run towards Uriah's bed. I stood next to his left, while Christine stood otherwise as Olan and Eddie made their way towards each end of the bed.
The volume of everyone's groans starts to increase. Before Uriah sits up, I pour cold water on him, making him yell. I watch him shiver, making me laugh in amusement. "W-what t-h-"
Christine fills his clothes with ice as I see Uriah yell once again, looking to Christine with disbelief in his eyes. I roll my head back as I stood there, laughing hysterically.
Olan grabbed him by his armpits, as Eddie grabbed him by the ankles. I watch as they bring him out of his bed, ice falling out of his clothes.
Christine and I laughed too hard at this as it made me cry and my stomach started aching so I had to clutch it.
The two boys dropped Uriah on the nearest tub. Reaching out, Uriah gasps for air. "Why you little shits-"
The room's silence soon starts to fill in with laughter. Uriah sits up on the tub, I heard Christine's snort, earning her giggle from me. Uriah gave me a look as I looked back. He looked furious. What's he mad at me for?
I look back at Christine who seemed to be making non-verbal signals to Uriah. She stopped before I could notice, but it was too late. "You're so dead." I said. I looked at her as she mouthed, run.
As I saw Uriah quickly stand up from the tub, I quickly dashed across the room. I look back, only to see Uriah slip from his wet feet in good timing.
The whole room filled with laughter once more as I ran and collided to a bed and fell.
Uriah and I both groaned in pain as I quickly stood up and ran, trying my best to stay away from him.
But boy, can Uriah run. In a blink of an eye, he caught me. I squeal as he carries me from behind.
Giggling as I exclaimed, "Stop it! Uriah! Hey! You're so cold!"
I was weak enough to fight back from his grip, I started struggling as I notice him approach the tub. "URIAH! DON'T YOU DARE! JEEZ, YOU'RE FREEZING!"
Before I could do anything else, I find myself surrounded by freezing water. The water was extremely colder than I expected. Before I even knew it, Uriah started tickling me. "STOP! URIAH! I OWE YOU CAKE!"
Then he stopped. I looked over the railing, seeing Tobias with a smirk, and Eric standing beside him. I feel my neck redden at the sight of him seeing me in this state.
I stood up from the tub, water drips off my shirt as it made it almost look sheer. The laughter died down as some replaced it with whistling.
"Enough." With one call from Eric, everyone seemed to quiet down immediately, like a robot.
"Dauntless, today is the day off." Eric interrupts."You're free to do whatever you want today. Tomorrow will be visiting day, so get ready. Don't get too attached." Eric said.
For a brief moment, I notice Eric looking at me at the corner of his eye from the distance again before leaving the room; giving me a slight shiver.
I look back at Christine, who had the widest smile on earth, "This is Unfair."
