Zelda and Link went the rest of the day not talking about what had just happened. Though the moment before was enjoyed by both, the two teens played it off as a totally normal occurrence that didn't embarrass them at all. Friends normally kiss each other on the backs of their hands, right? Yep. Totally normal. Not embarrassing. At all.

"What do you say we go out for dinner?"

Now Zelda's house was as sparkly and clean as a queen's palace! Believe it or not, Link used to take house cleaning classes. Zelda has always thought that was pretty weird but Link seemed happy about it so she was happy.

"Zel, it's 1 am. Wouldn't you rather do something else? Besides, it's late. Maybe we should just go to bed."

"But I want to hang out with you."

"Oh.. Then we could watch a movie..?"

"Not tonight."

"Midnight stroll?"

"It's freezing out."

"Zel, if you don't pick something I'll head home, my mom's probably worried."

The girl's face suddenly lit up. She had the perfect idea of what they were going to do!

"AHA! I've got an idea and no, it doesn't relate to going to bed."

Zelda drags Link upstairs, orders a pizza, and starts laying out all her pamper products including face masks, nail polish, makeup, etc.

"We'll be having a girls night! Before you say anything, I know this isn't exactly your kind of thing but I promise you'll have fun!"

"No way! Saying this isn't my thing is an understatement. What even are these things?" Link holds up an eyeshadow palette. "Do I put this on my lips??"

Of course he was joking, he pretty much grew up around girls with his sisters always around. You could say he's an expert in makeup but Zelda's laughs were enough reason to kid around.

"Please, Link? I don't have anyone else to try out this stuff on! Years of Christmas and birthday gifts going to waste. That would be just awful." Alongside the words of persuasion, Zelda gives the typical puppy eyes.

"Fiiiiiiine. But I promise that if there's even an ounce of makeup still on my face when I leave, you're buying me food!"

Despite the attempt of getting out of the situation, Link is still inevitably sat on Zelda's bed, still trying to come up with an excuse of why he should just leave. Of course, there were plenty of reasons why he should have and Zelda was totally in the wrong. There was school the next day, a test, plenty of homework and Link still hadn't texted his mom about where he was but despite all of that, all Link could think of was the blonde sitting right in front of him, Zelda. The way her hair fell perfectly into place, the way her lips curled when she focused and especially how close she was to him. What felt to Link as the entire time having her hand rested on his face. He couldn't explain the feelings he had or why he blushed every time she got close to him but he knew it wasn't friendship anymore.

"Alright, I think I'm done! What do ya think? Not exactly an expert in this kind of thing but I think I did a pretty awesome job."

Zelda held out a mirror for Link to check himself out with. Zelda actually did a good job and Link was pretty surprised. She hadn't really ever shown an interest in girly things like shopping or doing makeup but it seemed to him like she practiced a lot.

"Wow."

"I know, right? Pretty cool if I do say so myself." Zelda put on another of her smirks.

"No, I mean, wow, get this off of me right now. I look like a girl!"

The two burst into laughter and added one more to their memories.

"Alright, pretty princess, I'll take it off now."

"Say that one more time, I dare you!"

Zelda was just finishing up taking off the makeup when Link checked his phone.

"Oh, dang, it's 2:30 already and my mom has sent a bunch of texts... I should go home now."

"Alright.. let me walk you to the door." There was a sudden uncomfortable silence as the seconds of going down the stairs and walking to the door felt more like hours. Zelda knew it was her fault that Link is in trouble now and boy did she feel terrible about it.

"Here we are.. at the door."

"Uh, yeah..? Zel, are you okay? Sick or anything? You should get some rest." Link holds his hand on the girl's forehead to take her temperature.

"No! I mean, I'm okay. I'm just really sorry about this. I knew you have a busy day tomorrow and I still forced you to stay. I just really wanted to apologize, see you tomorrow, Link."

The boy didn't say anything for a while, kind of shocked. So this is what she was worried about. That's ridiculous, he didn't blame her and he knew his mom would understand. It's not even like Link didn't enjoy the time they were spending together.

Link knew Zelda. She would stay up all night feeling awful and end up sleeping in or something the next day, this isn't the first time. He knew she needed more than an "it's okay" to cheer her up so he slowly held up his hand and gently wiped his lips, showing the residue to Zelda.

"Looks like you owe me food. Buy me funnel cake tomorrow?"

Zelda stares at him for a while and then smiles.

"Funnel cake it is!"
