Andy's POV
Andy is at football practice when he gets a text. He looks at it and sees it's from his mom.
Mom: "When will you get home? I have a surprise for you."
Andy: "What is it? Anything bad?"
Mom: "No sweetie, nothing bad. Rather good."
Andy: "Practice is almost over, then I will be home. Can it wait for that long?"
Mom: "Yeah, that works. Text me when you're on your way back. No driving."
Andy rolls his eyes and turns to Carl. "Are you able to take me back to my house?"
"Oh, yeah, definitely. I'll have Blaine with us too."
"You and Blaine are friends? I thought you guys were fighting or something."
"Oh, we worked that out. It was just a misunderstanding. We're fine now."
"That's great. So you're taking him back home?"
"Nah, he's gonna stay with me tonight." Andy's stomach twists into a knot.
Blaine pops up standing next to Carl. "So, are we ready to go, or are we going to stand here and chat all day?"
"We still have 10 minutes left."
"Okay and?"
"You're going to get us in trouble one day," Andy lets out a soft laugh. Carl gives Andy a puzzled look.
Andy returns his focus to football practice. When their coach announces that practice is over, they all head back to the locker room to change out of their football stuff. Andy puts all of his things in his bag and waits for Carl and Blaine to be ready to head out.
When they're ready to leave, Blaine picks up his bag, then picks up Andy's bag before Andy can. "You don't have to carry my bag." Andy looks at him, expecting Blaine to give him back his bag.
"I'm carrying it. Let's go." Blaine gestures for Andy and Carl to go out the door. Carl leaves without thinking twice. Andy hesitantly walks out the door, glancing back at Blaine as he tries to figure out why Blaine is being like this.
When Andy arrives home, his mom meets him at the door. "What's the surprise, mom?"
"I can't tell you, that's the point of a surprise."
Andy follows his mom into the kitchen where Dave and Calvin are sitting. Calvin looks as confused as Andy feels. He moves to sit next to Calvin, making sure he's not sitting next to Dave and can't make any eye contact.
"Okay, so Dave and I have a huge announcement."
"Calm down honey, it's not that big of a deal," Dave tells her with a roll of his eyes.
"It's a huge deal. After years of not having one, we are finally having a baby. That's right, I'm expecting." Andy's jaw drops to the floor. There is going to be a mini Dave? That's nasty.
His mom ignores his expression and continues, "and Calvin, since you're going to be here for the year, I want to have you involved with the baby. At least in the beginning, but hopefully for the rest of their life. You're like a brother to them from now on." She smiles at Calvin, who still looks shocked. Frozen in place.
"My dear Andy, you're gonna be a big brother. You're going to have a little sibling running around here."
Dave speaks up. "And you better help. Don't go running off, doing stupid shit. Your mom is going to need help. I work and I can't be here all the time. The running off to Blaine's at every minor inconvenience will end." Andy glances between his mom and Dave and guilt builds in his stomach. Did he used to do that? Was he not strong enough to do things himself?
