Severus stood, numb, within a sea of black, just another wave in an ocean of morning and grief.

The ravenett hadn't wanted to come to this place.

Hadn't wanted to witness yet another person leaving him behind.

When the missive had been delivered he hadn't wanted to believe it, praying that it was some sick joke, but as he watched two caskets lower into a joint grave, it all became sickeningly real.

The Fae watched as the waxed surface gleamed in the sun, the day horribly clear and bright, not reflecting just what an awful occasion it was holding witness too.

Once the coffins had passed the lip of the hole the grave stone became clear.

....*....
In loving memory of Logan and Rosemary Evens

Love was never lost within their home and their love lives on in those they loved
...._....

It was a car accident, the missive had said.

They had died almost instantly.

According to reports the two had decided to go on holiday, though Severus knew that hadn't been quite true, and were on their way to the airport for their flight when it happened.

A food lory had suddenly swerved in front of them, Logan had miraculously managed to avoided it, but the car behind them rammed into their bumper, pushing them over the dividing line and into the on coming traffic of a delivery van.

Investigators found the lory driver had suddenly suffered a heart attack, causing him to loose control, but the driver of the car that rammed the Evens had been speeding and thus had no time to avoid hitting the couple.

Both drivers survived, along with the occupants of the delivery van, leaving the Evens the only fatalities.

Severus numbly wondered why out of all those involved, it had to be the Evens that had died.

Why Logan? He wanted scream.

Why a man who happily sacrificed his time to his patients and family?

Who never raised his hand in anger or spoke a cross word to anyone?

Who laughed and loved with such quiet conviction and strength that it made those around him feel secure and safe?

Why him?

Why the man that truly saw him, knew him, loved him despite not owing the Fae a thing?

Why the man who never once looked at him with pity, but expectations, patience, and pride?

Why the man that Severus loved as a father?

The funeral drew on, the young Fae barely noticing as following speeches were made, falling on deaf ears as their owner stared dazedly after the caskets.

Severus wasn't called to make a speech and he didn't try to make one.

He simply stood at the back of the crowd, as they all gathered around the hole one last time.

Lily threw the first shovel of dirt onto the coffins before collapsing back into Potter in a fit of gut wrenching sobs, unable to stay strong anymore.

One by one, the other mourners threw in a single rose before drawing back and when it came the Fae's turn, he faintly thank God at the fact that Black and Lupin were nowhere to be found.

Thanks to his scent potion, as well as Potter being focused on his wife, Severus went unnoticed.

He honestly didn't believe he could have handled the drama they, especially Black, would have stirred up.

Severus staid even as the other guests left for the wake, watching as the undertaker finished burying the caskets and left without another glance at the ravenett.

Faintly, the Fae was grateful he hadn't allowed Cameron to come.

At first it was because he hadn't wanted the two parts of his life mixing, but as he watched the other mourners leave, Severus realised that it also allowed him to be alone with Logan one last time.

Once everyone was gone, Severus sat down on the left side of the grave, Logan's side, and buried his shaking hands in the dirt mound.

The pain of losing Logan was different from losing his mother, but the grief washing through him was no less sharp, no less agonizing.

It stole the breath from his lungs and held his heart in an unyielding vice of emotion that pressed against his ribs, trying to escape, trying to consume him.

As Severus sat there, hands buried within the loose soil, he felt the grief that was trying to pull him under boil up.

Words began spilling from his lips, ones he had never got to tell Logan, ones he had been unable to say.

They all came pouring out though the Fae knew the one ment to hear them could no longer listen.

Oh, oh, oh, oh

It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind

So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings

It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know, I know the truth, of course I know it
I would be nothing without you

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings

Did I ever tell you, you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
'Cause you are the wind beneath my wings

Oh, the wind beneath my wings
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away, you let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings

Fly, fly, so high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings

The song rang through the cemetery, haunting in its loss, as the voice carrying it cracked and screamed, creating a melody that was as beautiful as it was monstrous in its pain.

And as the last words echoed out, thin, pained, and gasping, they revealed just how their weaver was drowning.
