Aalayahs pov:
"Sissy, I don't think you should do-", I watch as the window breaks, glass shattering sounds fill my ears. 'Girls gotta do, what a girls gotta do', I thought to myself with a slight giggle.
"I'll climb through and unlock the front door, go wait up front", I tell Zara, who just shakes her head and scrunches up her face in a 'have you gone crazy look'.
"Zara go, you can't go through this way, there is glass on the floor. I promise by the time you get to the front door, I'll already be there" , I promise to her, holding out my pinky.
"Okay" she mutters, locking pinky's with mine.

The sound of the bell ringing fills my ears, and I begin gathering my things. I'm just about to start heading out when I hear the teacher call my name.
Looking up, I see the last remaining kid in the classroom exit, making me nervous. I hate being the last one to leave, almost as much as I hate this anxiety that's formed in the bottom of my throat.
"Yes, miss Jo" I force out, a slight quiver to my voice, causing my cheeks to heat up knowing very well she can tell how nervous I am.
"I've been meaning to talk to you about your attendance in my class room. I've noticed you haven't been showing up for my class nor have you been showing up for your classes that follow after mine". She takes a slight break, in which she just looks at me, almost as though she's analyzing me, before she continues, "I don't know where you're going, or what you're doing darling, but you're not allowed to just leave school whenever you please. With the rate you're going you'll have a truancy officer by the end of this week."
My eyes are glued to the floor, staring at our shoes. I can't stop fidgeting under her stern yet gentle gaze. My hands are fiddling with my trapper keeper, and I'm continuously shuffling from one foot, to the other.
With any other teacher, I definitely wouldn't be this anxious about being lectured but this one just intimidates me, she makes me feel like I'm a kid being scolded by their mother.
"I'm sorry, I just have", I sigh realizing it's not worth it to explain, she doesn't care about my problems, she just wants me to attend class.
"I'm sorry, Miss Jo, I'll try to be here more". I finally look back up at her and see her eyes soften when we make eye contact. "Thank you sweetheart, you're dismissed".
I nod and walk out.
The overcrowded hallway is filled with loud chatter, causing me to huff in annoyance and frustration.
Pushing past everyone, I go to my locker and grab my coat, remembering Zara's teachers insistence that I wear one. I wrap it around my waist, and head for the front doors.
The bell rings for class to begin as I'm walking out into the freezing cold.
Wind nips at my cheeks and ears, my fingers are numb but my arms aren't cold, so I opt out of putting on my jacket.

Walking through the front doors, I make my way to Zara's classroom. I'm a bit late getting here today, as I did stop at Starbucks. 'Not too late though' I think to myself as there are still a good amount of parents picking up their children.
I make it to her classroom door and right as I look in, I witness Zara being slapped by a little boy.
The two women I met before slightly yell at the boy and start walking over to them to diffuse the situation before it gets any worse, but before they can get there, I find myself storming in and making my way towards zara, ignoring the two women who have now noticed my presence.
