Andrea drove back to Woodbury, thinking about what Carol had told her. She should give the Governor the most incredible night of his life; then, she should end him. Andrea knew in her mind that it was the right thing to do, but her heart was against it. She truly cared for Philip, and Andrea was having a hard time believing he was as bad as Rick and the others were saying, and if Rick was right, there had to be something she could do to help both groups.
Yes, she did believe Amy when Amy told her that Merle almost raped her, but she couldn't and wouldn't think Philip had ordered it. Philip didn't strike her as the type of person that would do something so heinous. But how well did she know Philip anyway? Could she take his word over Michonne's? She spent the entire winter with Michonne, a woman that protected and cared for her when she was ill.
When Andrea arrived at Woodbury, she exited the car with her hands up and identified herself to the guards. They opened the gate, and Martinez took her straight to the Governor. When they arrived at the Governor's door, Martinez knocked, and the Governor opened the door.
He smiled his charming smile, “Can I help you?”
“Yeah, we caught Andrea outside the wall, and I thought you'd like to talk to her.”
Philip's smile never faltered, “Thank you, Martinez. Andrea, come in.”
Andrea took a deep breath and walked in. Philip closed the door behind her, “I'm having a drink; would you like one?”
Andrea accepted the drink and sat down on the sofa. Philip sat beside her, “You went to the prison.” It wasn't a question.
“They're my friends, Philip and my sister; I had to ensure they were alright.”
Philip sat quietly for a moment, “And how are they?”
Andrea sighed, “They're living in horrible conditions. The group has lost several people, including my friend Lori. She was Rick's ex-wife and pregnant; luckily, the baby survived.”
Philip fake smiled, “I'm glad to hear that.”
Andrea stayed quiet for a moment, “Do you think we can offer them a place in Woodbury? My old group is strong; they would be a good addition to the town's defense.”
Philip took a drink and pretended to ponder Andrea's request, “After what happened? No. The people are afraid of them; asking Rick and his people here would only add tension.”
Andrea thought for a moment and slowly agreed, “Maybe we can come to an understanding with them. I could set up a meeting with Rick, and we could set some ground rules.” Andrea suggested.
“Now that sounds like a good idea. Why don't you set up that meeting in a few days, and Rick a.nd I will talk.”
Andrea smiled and agreed; she left Philip's apartment and returned to hers. Meanwhile, The Governor needed to plan how he would get back the girl, Kagome, and Michonne. Kagome would be a valuable asset to the town, and The Governor couldn't wait to get his revenge on Michonne for what she had done to him and his beloved Penny.
A few days later, Rick, Daryl, and Hershel were outside a barn in neutral territory, waiting for the Governor to show up. They discover that the Governor is already inside waiting for Rick. Rick got out of the car and told Hershel to keep the car running.
Rick cautiously went inside the barn with his gun drawn; the Governor stepped out of the shadows, and they began talking, “Why don't we sit down, Rick?”
Rick observed the Governor for a moment, then sat down in the chair opposite him. He laid his gun on the table, as did the Governor. They talked for a while; then Rick told the Governor they were not giving up the prison.
“Why would I want that? Andrea told me about your baby and the death of your wife. Oh, sorry, ex-wife. But by the look of that new wedding ring on your finger, I'm guessing you married that pretty little Japanese girl. Good for you, Rick.”
Rick didn't say anything, but his jaw ticked in anger, “What do you want?” Rick asked.
“I want you all dead. You're a threat to my people, and I can't have that.”
“You attacked us first, and Merle kidnapped Kagome and Amy.”
“I had nothing to do with that,”
Rick scoffed, “I'm sure you didn't.” Rick answered sarcastically, “I am not going to let you harm my people.”
“Fine then, I settle for Michonne... and Kagome. She would be a great asset to us,” The Governor said.
Rick stood and slammed his hands on the table, “There is no way I am handing my wife over to you.”
“What about Michonne? Is she worth the life of your new bride, your son, and the rest of your group?”
Rick hesitated, and the Governor smiled, “I didn't think so. Give me Michonne and you, and I will work something out. I'll give you a few days to think about it.”
With that, the Governor stood and turned his back on Rick and left the building. As soon as he got outside, he whispered to Martinez that when they brought Michonne, he and his men to kill everyone except for Kagome and Michonne. The Governor was confident that Kagome wouldn't let Michonne come alone.
After a few moments, Rick exited the building and got into the car with Hershel. He explained what the Governor wanted. Hershel glanced at Rick, “What are you going to do? You know Kagome isn't going to let you sacrifice Michonne.”
“I know she won't. If it weren't for Michonne, Kagome would be dead, and I can never thank her enough for saving Kagome. So, I guess we're going to war. I'm not going to turn Michonne over to this madman when I know he wants to torture her to death.”
Hershel sighed, “Good,” Hershel patted Rick's shoulder as they drove back to the prison, “We'll think of something, Rick.”
