The next morning Rick sleeps in; he gets up and finds that Carol had washed his clothes. He thanks her and then goes looking for Lori, but instead, he saw Kagome by the fire with Carl making breakfast. He changes course and walked over to Kagome, “Good morning, Kagome. Good morning, Carl.”

“Morning, Dad.”

“Good morning, Rick.”

“How did you sleep, Kagome.”

“Alright, you?”

“Same. Carl, why don't you find your mom?”

“Okay, Dad”

After Carl left, Rick sat down next to Kagome, “So I was thinking of the man that we left back on the roof yesterday.”

“Yeah, so was I, we need to go back and get him, Rick. It's not right to leave him up there to die.”

“I know it isn't, but I was going to ask you to stay here.”

Kagome furrowed her, brow, “Why?”

“Because I wanted to ask you to protect my family. I know that with your powers, you'll be able to handle the Walkers.”

“And what powers are those, Rick?”

“Come on, Kagome, I saw what you did to those Walkers in Atlanta. I don't know how you did it, but all I know is that you're powerful, and we can use your help.”

“Oh, so that's the only reason you want me around, because of my skills?” Kagome said indignantly.

“No, I want you around because you're my friend, and I care about you. I don't want anything to happen to you out there by yourself. Please, Kagome, don't leave.”

Kagome sat there, remembering the times that Inuyasha treated her like she was nothing more than a jewel detector and never once showed his appreciation. Her eyes started to well up with tears, and she got up and walked away, “Kagome!” Rick called after her, but Kagome ignored him. She went back into her tent and laid down.

Rick sighed, perhaps he went about it the wrong way. He didn't mean to insinuate that all Kagome was good for was her skills. Rick valued more than that about her. He appreciated her kindness, bravery, her compassion. There were so many things that Rick admired, and he did consider Kagome, a friend. Rick hung his head in shame and heaved himself to his feet and went looking for Lori. What he didn't realize was that Lori had seen the entire thing with him and Kagome. She seethed with anger and thought that Rick was having an affair with Kagome.

Rick finally found Lori and told her that he had decided to go back for Merle. They get into an argument when they suddenly hear Carl and Sophia calling for help. Rick and the men rush over and see that a Walker is eating the carcass of a deer but has turned on Carl and Sophia when he heard them shouting. The men begin beating the Walker with shovels trying to beat it back when an arrow comes out of nowhere and hits the Walker in the head. They turn to see Kagome standing there with her bow, “You need to go for the brain, guys,” She turns and goes back into her tent.

A little while later, they hear a twig snap and whirl around to see Daryl Dixon come out of the woods, “Son of a bitch. That's my deer! Look at it. All gnawed on by this… filthy, disease-bearing, motherless poxy bastard!”

Daryl then kicks the body of the Walker, “Calm down, Son, that's not helping,” Dale tells him.

“What do you know about it, old man? Why don't you take that stupid hat and go back to "on golden pond"? I've been tracking this deer for miles. Gonna drag it back to camp, cook us up some venison. What do you think? Do you think we can cut around this chewed up part right here?”
