With the call ended I had an understanding of what happened and quickly I was taken over by a deathly calmness, my breathing slowed and my heart returned to its normal rhythm I stood up and grabbed up our bags and then walked away from the apartment under the eyes of the tenant who had looked out due to the cries of the twins.
Jogging down the stairs I looked out to see the rain had started falling at some point, I took our suitcases from under the steps and went through the twins' own and retrieved their raincoats, along with two sweaters for them.
I closed the suitcase and let them sit on it before pulling the sweaters on them and then dressing them in their raincoats. When I was done I found myself looking at them as they sniffled and whimpered as they'd stopped sobbing a while I was dressed them.
I reached out and wiped the tears from their faces and have a calm smile, when they were calm I took out two juice boxes and let them have them before going through my bag and pulling out the envelope the woman had given me the day of the trip.
I sat down and opened it, looking in I could see a stack of hundreds and a letter taking out the letter I gazed over it and sneered before crumbling it up and tossing it out into the rain. All the words only translated into a simple fact, our mother had abandoned us, just like our fathers had, she was no different and no better than them, it just took her longer to show her true colors.
I reached in a took the money out, I quickly counted it and then chuckled " what am I supposed to do with this little money, the least you could have done was leave us a place to stay..." I sighed and looked at the twins who had finished their juices and were now leaning against each other as they attempted tried to not fall asleep.
Standing up I picked them up and put them to sit on top of the suitcases after raising them up, I picked up our bags and then grabbed the suitcases' handles and pulled them out from under the steps. Walking into the rain I turned in the direction of the good part of town, for now, I would just find a motel for us to stay in and then think of what to do after that.
After walking for close to half an hour I stopped in front of an old two-story building that had a lit-up motel sign. Walking quickly I stepped in from the rain, my attention was drawn to the woman behind the counter just as she looked up at me.
Her eyes widened slightly as I came in front of her dripping wet and soaked from head to toe "how much for a room?"
"That will be fifty-two for a night, how long do you plan on staying?"
Reaching into my backpack I took out the envelope and passed it to her "for as long as this can let me."
The woman smiled and picked up the envelope, sliding the money out of it she counted it and then nodded "this will give you a solid month and thirteen days..." she reached out to the cash register and put the money in before typing something into the computer before asking for my information.
After she was done she passed the key to me and smiled "room 44, it's at the end when you go upstairs." I thanked her took the keys and went out going back into the rain.
Going to the stairs I took the twins off of the suitcases and carried them to the top of the stairs before going down back for the cases, after that, I got us to our room. Opening the door I let them go in and then entered shutting the door, switching on the lights I looked at the two double beds and let out a sigh.
Not wasting any time I went to the bathroom and washed down the bathtub before filling it with hot water, soon all three of us were stripped down and I sat in the tub with them letting them warm up first before getting all of us showered.
Soon we were dried off, dressed and I was tucking the twins in after drying their hair. I watched them until they fell asleep and then moved over to the other bed and dropped down, but just as I did my phone rang.
Taking it out I glanced at the screen and picked up the call "when will you get here?"
I looked at the twins who were sleeping deeply and then thought of the fact that I just spent all our money to get us the motel room. I thought of the food I had taken from the camp, it would only last us for a week at most so as much as I didn't want to leave them alone in this strange place I didn't have much of a choice.
Taking a deep breath and breathing out I finally spoke "I'll be there in an hour."
"Good I'll be here." After saying that he hung up.
I looked at the phone and then stood up going over to the twins' bed, I laid down next to them and just looked at them for the next twenty minutes before getting up. I got dressed grabbed my stuff and left, once again stepping into the room I started on my walk towards the hotel where I always met this client.
I went through the back and then up to the tenth floor, reaching the room I knocked twice, and the door was opened by a man who stood a head taller than me. Looking down at me he smirked and pulled me into the room, not allowing me to say a word before his mouth was on mine.

Turning over in the bed I looked over at the man who sat at the table, he blew out a puff of smoke and looked at me I felt his eyes trailing over me before he spoke: "stay the night I'll double the usual."
Shaking my head I sat up and got off the bed "as tempting as that is I can't" I spoke in a soft voice and walked over to him when I saw the frown on his face. "But I have nothing to do for the next four days you can have me if you want."
"But you won't be able to sleep over any of those days." He said and reached out to touch my waist, I nodded slowly and he looked at me deeply. "Something had to have happened for you who only saw me once a month to offer me a full week." I said nothing to that and he chuckled "if you need more business I have a few friends that are interested in tasting you."
I held back the shudder that wanted to break out and smiled at him and leaned down placing a kiss on his lips "thank you."
"Stay for another hour and show me how thankful you are."

Walking out of the room I rubbed the wad of cash in my pocket and made quick work of leaving the hotel, I didn't make any stops and soon returned to the motel. Looking at the twins who slept soundly on the bed the somber feelings I had faded away.
I stripped off my clothes and took another shower even if I had taken one at the hotel, when I was done drying off I got dressed and slipped into the bed with the twins pulling them into my arms before falling asleep.
The next morning I was awoken by the voices I sat up quickly nearly snapping my neck to look in their direction. A deep sigh left me as I spotted the twins sitting in front of the tv a box of cereal sat between them as they stared at the cartoons that were playing on the motel tv.
Looking at how entertained they were I was happy that the strange place didn't make them too uncomfortable. I reached over and took my phone from the side table, looking at the time I got up and went through my bag taking out some things to make a simple breakfast for them.
When they were eating I took a shower and brushed my teeth only stopping to look in the mirror when I saw the marks on my exposed skin. The night before flashed in my mind, I gripped the sink and tried to think of something else, remembering the basketball camp I was finally able to calm down.
I finished getting ready and went over to sit with the twins, they glanced up at me and shifted closer before moving their eyes back to the tv causing me to break into a smile.
