Lyann walked with Jordan down to the Boss' office, their steps fell into a rhythm and the silence between them was comfortable.
"Did he tell you why he wanted me?"
"No. All he said was 'Just go get Lyann' but he seemed mad, sorry." Jordan said, not sounding very sorry but just unaffected.
Great one of your best friends might die today and you can't even muster to try and sound apologetic. Why do I even keep you around?
"Thanks Jordan, I can really feel your sympathy," She responded sarcastically hiding her nervousness.
"You're welcome." He retorted cheekily and smiled. "You're gonna be fine, you'll get yourself outta this in no time, don't worry."
They walked up the stairs side by side and she looked at him, "Thanks man."
"No problem."
They continued up the the stairs, turned right and walked towards the end of the hall of offices that the Capos use when they're here for business. Finally, they got to the end and Jordan stopped and looked at her.
"Good luck."
"Thanks, I'm going to need it."
He mock saluted, turned and walked away. She faced the door, Fuck, what did I do this time? I didn't miss training, I didn't piss off any Capos and I went the boring meeting last week instead of ditching like I wanted to. I've been on my best behavior! I mean the only thing I've done wrong is... SHIT! This is about Bonnie, isn't it? It is... Aw hell I'm screwed.)Lyann raised her hand to knock and then paused to take a deep breath and prepare herself, which, of course, caused her to hear Jordan stumble on a couple steps.
(Idiot. Only he would trip on stairs he's been walking on since forever.
She shook her head and knocked. It was answered by a deep voice, "Come in."
Lyann opened the door and stepped inside, letting it close itself behind her.
"You called for me?" The girl said walking closer to the desk where a man in an expensive black suit with an emerald tie, nicely styled hair and gray eyes of steel sat.
"Please, take a seat."
Lyann did so putting her hands in her lap and playing with her fingers while trying to keep a calm expression.
"So I heard there was a slight... complication in your robbery."
"Yes. Well, I can explain-"
"Oh, can you?"
"Yes. You see, Jordan and Donny were arguing about music choices while we were staking out the place and they'd been at it for hours. Finally, it was about to close. It was now or never so I went for it. Long story short, she pressed the distress button with her knee when I wasn't looking, the pigs came, everything was falling apart and I'm not getting put in the pin. I freaked and couldn't think of a better option than just to kidnap her. I just did the best I could do: I got the money, got the girl and torched the place, leaving no evidence."
"Why didn't your back up notice you leave and not go with you?"
"They're idiots."
"Yet you continue to work with them?"
"They're MY idiots."
"Lyann you can't make mistakes like this."
"I know Boss, it won't happen again."
"I should hope not." The man sighed, he was stressed with all the work he had to do and he also had to deal with her shenanigans. "Do you want to avenge your mother or not Lyann?"
"You know I do."
"Then act like it."
"I can and I will do better."
"I know you can, and you will." Lyann hung her head in shame, no matter how hard she tried to forget and be positive, her past always came back to haunt her. "When your father made me his capo bastone I was around your age, twenty-three. I wasn't as lucky as you, I didn't have nearly as much time as you do to prepare for taking over the the business. Your father was killed three years ago when I had only been training for two years and suddenly I was in charge. But you've got these resources, don't give me reasons to think that you're wasting them. I love you niece but the family before blood, and if you can't handle the responsibility given to you then you will be replaced."
"Yes, Uncle."
"You are free to leave now."
Lyann got up from her seat and left, a new wave of shame came over her, she had a duty to her parents. She had to honor and avenge her parents and she'd do well to remember why she's really here and a short sighted infatuation with a girl she met not even a week prior to this meeting with her Uncle will not sidetrack her from her main goal.
