Bonnie jumped, instinctively tackling Lyann to the ground, using her body as a shield and took the shot for her with a short scream. The paintball hit her on the back, exploding into a mess of purple and ruining her white v-neck that Rosella gave her. Zara quickly took a gun from her holster, hidden by her leather jacket, turned to face the roof, aimed and shot one of the people on the roof.

Donny choose NOW for target practice for the newbies? Ugh, did Lyann even think about this while planning this little test for latest future conquest? "To see if she can be trusted." She said. "It's a simple test." She said. "Nothing will go wrong, everything will be fine. This will take half an hour at most." She said. Why do I even bother? My best friend is a fucking idiot.

Zara pulled Bonnie off Lyann and pushed both girls behind a dumpster for cover. "Is Donny fucking kidding me right now?" Zara said while quickly standing to scope out the scene and crouching back down to check on the girls who were having a moment.

"You saved me.." Lyann said shocked, she knew it was just a paintball but as far as Bonnie knew that was a bullet. She tried to take a bullet for me, well in a way she kind of did even though it was just a paintball pellet, She THOUGHT that it was an actual bullet and her first instinct was to save me.

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"I just did."

Their eyes locked, they didn't notice the world around them not even Zara crouched a few feet away from them, trying to come up with a plan to get them all out of there with the minimum amount of paint on their clothes.

"Thanks."

"No problem, anytime."

Lyann smiled, "I'll hold you to that."

Bonnie blushed making the skin around her face darker and smiled right back. Where her eyes always that deep hazelish brown? How could I not have noticed that about her? She's beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

"I don't doubt it."

Bonnie had no idea why she had saved Lyann, but she was glad she did. Because out of all the crap she had experienced in only two days, this moment, behind a dumpster avoiding getting hit with paintballs, was undenyingly the best thing thing that has happened to her so far.

"Hey, cliche girls found in almost every superhero movie, we don't have the time for this." Zara said impatiently. Honestly could they be more useless? "Listen, the door to the garage is six feet behind us. I'll cover you while you make a break for it. Pull the car up here and we'll escape relatively unharmed. Got it?"

"Got it." Lyann said dragging her eyes away from Bonnie and nodded at her partner's plan.

"Fabulous." Zara shoved up her pistol back in her holster and picked up her BT-4 Combat Marker she had hidden a week prior to this for the paintball battle that was rained out, loaded up and then sprang up from her crouching position behind the dumpster as she began firing at the people on the roof. "GO!"

Lyann grabbed Bonnie's hand and broke into a sprint to the garage door, opened it with her keys and unlocked the car, jumping over to the driver side, but not before pushing Bonnie into the passenger seat, and closing the door. Lyann put on her seat belt and started the car while Bonnie was putting on hers.

"Thank you for opening my door, PUSHING me inside the car and SLAMMING the door." Bonnie said while Lyann drove like a mad woman to get to Zara. "Let it always be said that you are a gentleman-err... gentlewoman."

"Sorry, love, we're in a bit of a hurry, if you didn't notice."

Still doesn't excuse rudeness.

They drove near the dumpster where Zara was still firing and distracting the three gun men. She fired two more shots, ran to the car, opened the car door and jumped in, but not before getting hit by a defective pellet, that didn't explode into color but just stayed in ball form. It hit her hip, causing a shearing pain akin to getting shot by an actual bullet. "HOLY FUCK!"

"Holy shit, Zara are you okay?"

"ZARA, ARE YOU OKAY?" Bonnie yelled while freaking out What the fuck is even happening?

Zara only grunted and used her feet to close the door since she jumped in and fell across the backseat of the car. Oh fuck that HURTS. It took her a few tries but she got it done and only screamed after her last attempt. She quickly took the gun from the driver's seat pocket and aimed at Bonnie.

"I'm fine, thanks for asking. Bonnie. Don't think this is going to stop me from shooting you if necessary. This gun is a real one with real bullets so don't try to escape."

Bonnie looked from the gun to Lyann, back at the gun, and back to Lyann. Lyann please help me

"Sorry, love." Lyann said reading Bonnie's thoughts. "You know the rules."

"No, I don't. No one ever told me them."

Zara groaned while moving to a more comfortable angle to both lay down and aim.

"Well, I'd hoped you were a quick learner."

"Where is your apartment, Bonnie?" Asked Lyann who realized she had no idea where she was going.

But before Bonnie could answer, Zara cut in. "I already texted you the address and put it in your GPS."

"Thanks, Zara."

"How did you-" Bonnie asked, really disturbed that someone she knew for maybe a day already know her address.

"Doesn't matter." Zara replied and shot her in the shoulder with a sleeping dart.

"Ow! Hey, I thought that was a real gun not a..." Bonnie got out sluggishly and fell asleep before she could finish her sentence.

Zara already knew what the girl was trying to say and answered her even though she was unconscious, "I lied."

"Oh my god, Zara you were so dramatic."

"I was not." Zara said laughing but quickly sobering up. "Wanna tell me what happened back there?"

Oh shit here we go. "What do you mean?"

"I mean you wooing your sleeping beauty when you should've been focusing on getting out of there."

"Relax Zar, we weren't in any actual danger we preplanned this, remember? Donny giving lessons to the new recruits today with paintballs to teach them about how to act in a gunfight, us going to Bonnie's apartment to get her stuff so we could see how she would react in a high intensity situation and where her loyalties lied. And, most important, find out if it was worth it to help her get in."

"I know that but just because we weren't in danger this time doesn't mean we won't be next time and I need to know that you can be counted upon-"

"Now, come on. We've been partners for years, you know that-"

"EVEN when Bonnie is around. You've been around and worked with pretty girls before and it has never gotten in the way of you doing your job, don't let this time be any different."

Lyann looked at the rear view mirror at Zara who had lift up her shirt to asses the damage did to her, groaned and took a cold compress out of the mini cooler under her seat and applied it to her impending brusie. Zara looked up and caught Lyann's eyes

"You're right I won't get distracted again."

"I sure hope so," Zara looked back down at her injury ending the conversation.

Lyann refocused on the road ahead of her and while plugging in her headphones to listen to the GPS give directions, unbeknownst to either one of the girls Bonnie was still on the edge of consciousness and though unable to open her eyes, she had heard every last word exchanged in the car without her and was furious.
