Incense Cocktail (Tighnari x Reader)

"(Y/N) I could use your assistance with something. Do you mind?" I hear someone say from behind me, startling me a bit. I turn around to see Tighnari staring back at me. I was so deeply focused on finishing my daily report that I hadn't heard his footsteps behind me.

"I...Uh...O-okay." I stuttered.

"Make your necessary preparations, I'll be back in about ten minutes." He turns to leave and before I can ask any questions he was gone. I let out a sigh.

Admittedly Tighnari makes me a bit nervous. Collei always says not to take him too seriously but I can't help it. His matter-of-fact tone and emotionless stare can be a bit intimidating at times. That being said, having a crush on him intensifies that anxiety.

I tuck my paperwork under the clamp of my clip board and put it to the side with the intent to pack it along with a few other essentials. I packed up my bag with some food, clean water, first aid, and some other necessities. By the time I was done Tighnari returned as promised with an expecting look in his eye.

"Are you ready to go?" He said. I nod my head quickly before exiting my treehouse. Without another word we start walking, I trail behind him like a little duckling unsure of when to break the silence.

We walked for quite a bit but I made sure to be aware of our surroundings. I knew we were fairly deep in Avidya forest but the need to know why began bubbling up within me.

"T-Tighnari?" I force his name through my lips yet my tone felt unobtrusive.

He stopped in his tracks and turned to me with a hum of acknowledgment. Although his eyes can be intense the color themselves are beautiful. They reminded me of precious gems glimmering in the sun light.

"What are we doing out here" I question as I bit my inner lip.

"Oh! I apologize for not explaining sooner." He chuckled a bit at the end of his statement with a type of warmth I wasn't personally familiar with from him. "I had plans of studying some of Avidia forest's plant life and thought I may need some help. So I chose you to be my assistant today."

I took in his words for a moment before tilting my head in confusion

"Me? Why is that? Don't you usually do this alone?" Silence passed between us for a brief moment before he sputtered a strange response.

"I...I f-felt you would provide a f-fresh perspective on my studies." He scratched at the back of he's head as he says this "And you're a fairly vigilant forest ranger."

"Thanks." I felt as though this was his way of giving me a compliment so i accepted it without pushback.

"But isn't it a bit late to be out like... this?" I gesture at the sky. The sun was fast approaching the horizon, painting the sky with shades of orange.

"Right. We can squeeze a few specimens in if we get a move on." He then turns his back to me and proceeds forward. "Don't fall too far behind! We must move quickly."

I chase after him, jogging slightly so that we are walking shoulder to shoulder. Tighnari looks at me with a warm smile then we go back to walking in silence. His smile made my heart flutter. I had to bite my lip just to hide how smitten I was.

We walked around for a while observing plant life as we went. The flowers we studied were specimens that most forest rangers were well acquainted with, that being said this forest visit was beginning to strike me as odd. I hadn't known this man for long but from observing him I can tell while he loves to be thorough he also is most fascinated by rare and unique finds so why are we looking at harra fruit.

I decide to humor what ever this little expedition is for now simply because I like being near him and I know this is the only time I'll be able to be near him like this.
