Wriothesley's POV

Pristine.

That's the word that came to mind at the sight of her. Something untouched by mankind, too good to be one of us but gracious enough to bless us with her presence, with her voice.

Her voice was haunting. With each note she sung I was carried away, lost in a sea of emotion. Longing, desire, fear, anger, melancholy, contentment; they all converged like raging tides surrounding me within the walls of the opera house. Beneath these waves it was just her and I.

I saw myself dancing with her. My calloused hands rested firmly against her plush hips while her delicate arms wrapped around my shoulders. Her sultry voice singing a song just for me, her doe eyes staring deep into mine to share a type of intimacy only known to the soul. To be seen, fully, even with the shadow your past has casted over you.

Applause pulled me from the depths of my mind. Only then did I realize that the show had concluded and that I had stood with tear stained cheeks to give her the praise my body believed she deserved.

I took advantage of the darkness and my back being to the crowd, which included Neuvillette, to wipe away my tears. Taking my seat as the applause died down and the lights began to flicker on one by one.

"Her voice was beautiful, wasn't it?" Neuvillette stared off at the stage where the woman once stood as he spoke. He seemed to be in a trance like I had been previously.

"I don't come to the over-world often..but I can say I don't regret coming here tonight." Neuvillette offered a hum of acknowledgment, preparing to part his lips to say more but before he could we were interrupted.

"I'm honored that you came to watch my performance, Monsieur Neuvillette." A soft-spoken voice said.

"The honor is all mine!" Something in Neuvillette's voice feels more friendly than usual. I had known my friend for a long time, he kept a sizable amount of distance between himself and everyone around him, including me. In his mind this was the only way to remain impartial when it came time to effectively do his job. Here and now, things seemed different. There was a slight tremble in his voice, and a nervous but gentle smile. Either her singing had really scrambled his brain or he had developed some attraction to this woman.

"Did you enjoy the show?" She held her hands behind her back, rocking on the balls of her feet awaiting his praise with a bright smile.

"Of course I did. I don't think anyone could dislike the performance you put on, Ms. (Y/n)." (Y/N)? So that was her name. It was beautiful and rolled off the tongue so nicely. I'll admit, when Neuvillette insisted on bringing me here I was apathetic to the whole gesture. At the time I would have rather wasted my time doing anything else thus I couldn't be bothered to remember who was performing. I regret not being more receptive to his invitation but luckily I decided to come anyway.

"You flatter me, Monsieur." Although they hadn't said much to each other there was a sort of warmth transpiring between the two that... angered me. I knew it was silly to be jealous but I couldn't help it. Neuvillette's gentlemanly behavior complimented her delicate aura so nicely. They reflect each other with a sort of unique glow that no one else could possibly give. He was as pristine as she was while I was the darkness just outside of the light. It had been a long time since I've felt shame for my past but my desire for (y/n) wakes all those long buried doubts from their grave.

"Ahem." Neuvillette looks to me, gathering the composure that he had lost moments prior. Lost composure by his standards anyway.

"Forgive my rudeness. Allow me to introduce you to The Duke of the Fortress of Meropide, Wriothesley."
