Fangs and All (Vampire Wanderer x Reader)

A/N: So I was attempting to rewatch Devils' Line because I stopped watching 4 episodes away from the finale the last time and it inspired me to write a story based around it so this one shot is heavily influenced by said anime. I wanted to use a more angsty character but I couldn't use Wriothesley again so I went with Wanderer lol.

Warning ⚠️: Mentions of blood and, of course, consumption of blood (I don't think I was too graphic though)

"You're bleeding..."

"Oh, am I? Must have been from when I fe-" Before I could finish speaking Wanderer leaned in close. Instinctively I leaned back to gain some space between us but he followed my every move, placing his hands on either side of my waist so that I was trapped. He traced his tongue along the side of my mouth where dried blood was stuck to my face. The heat of his tongue caused stinging to the fresh abrasion but I was too startled to truly acknowledge the slight pain.

This was all so strange. Wanderer and I had known each other for a while but this is the first time he's ever behaved like this. When I first got to know him he actually preferred to keep his distance from me. If I was headed one way he made it a point to go in the other direction. Through months of courageously wearing him down, I was finally able to build a friendship.That said, I'd never witnessed this odd behavior from him.

"Wan-" as I was about to say his name, a serpent-like tongue slid its way into my mouth. It explored every inch of my mouth it as it pleased and I sat there still as a stone. My mind was racing and my heart was pounding. I couldn't comprehend what was happening or why, yet the longer he licked away at every corner of my mouth and suckled on my lips I felt myself give in to him. As I began to fully lean into the kiss he pulled away.

"I...I didn't mean to..."His sentence came out in stutters as he turned away from me. Initially, I thought it was because he was embarrassed but the closer I listened it sounded more like he was in pain. I put my hand on his shoulder but as I was about to ask if he was okay he turned to look at me. I recoiled in shock at what was staring back at me. His face had morphed into something vastly different from what I was used to. The whites of his eyes were now blood red while his irises had become a bright shade of gold and his canines had grown long and sharp like knives.

"Wanderer?" I breathe. "What... are you?"

Instead of receiving an answer, tears well up in his eyes. They spill over his lashes and down his cheek as he looks at me with a type of regret I was not familiar with. His breathing was laborious as he seemed to be trying to calm himself down. He closed his eyes and took long deep breaths, he sat like that for a while and when he opened his eyes again he was back to normal.

I went to reach for his shoulder again but he flinched away from me.

"What is going on?"

"I...don't know how to explain. You won't believe me."

"Just try. I won't judge you." I tried to be as supportive as I could despite what I just witnessed and what he had done. I wasn't sure if I even believed the words coming out of my own mouth but I needed answers and I could only get them if he felt safe. It was hard to get Wanderer to open up on a regular day so I know getting him to speak now could be akin to pulling teeth.

"There are many names for what I am. Some would call me a devil or a demon..." He nibbled at his lips and kept his eyes trained on the floor. "A more technical diagnosis would be, I suffer from vampirism."

"Vampirism...as in, you're a vampire." I wanted to laugh, scoff even, but the memory of his blood red eyes and long, sharp teeth halted any air from leaving my chest. There was no other explanation to explain what I had seen. If he was sick, he was afflicted with something that hadn't made it into any known medical textbooks.
